OK let's just go the whole hog and have a post punk thread.
there is some crossover with 80's pop thread but this can deal with the less pop end of things.

general suggestion: if anyone is ever posting videos please type the name of the video in case it
gets deleted - so at least we know what you were talking about.
half the videos in the 2009 'new wave pop thread' are deleted now so we can only imagine
what gems Lili was talking about when he said ''a lot of this stuff would be my favourite kind of music''

That Neubauten video is what I imagine a concert looks like in the post-Nuclear hell at the end of Threads. I think that piece became “Das Schaben” (from the Halber Mensch sessions) eventually.

Great content thread! Hard to believe there's never been a post-punk thread before.

I played this video thirty times if I played it once last weekend. Hypnotic, eerie. Need to know more about these guys... conceptually and sonically they were definitely on to something... big. Aesthetic.

'Liebe Auf Den Ersten Blick' - D.A.F, 1981.

I like some bits of post punk. I was going to buy that boxset, to the outside of everything but I think it was out of print at the time and was going for more than I was willing to pay. I found a download on some blog (I know, I'm a criminal) I sifted through it and whittled it down to 2 CDs of what I liked.

It's back available again

a 3 LP boxed set of GRAUZONE was released recently
one LP is a live gig from 1980. I ordered it a few weeks back but it's hasn't arrived yet.

Swedish band whose first LP was released on a label that is now part of Universal and never reissued.
very good record that can be had for 5-10 Euro

My controversial take is that the debut Clash album is arguably an early post-punk album, not a punk album

anyway, here's Zerox because it's my avatar at the moment

the unfinished video features the amazing visual effect of zooming in and out

love that Mo-Dettes song/album btw. Could never get into Delta 5

Continuing the Adam Ant connected bands, not too many non-white guys in the post-punk scenes, this song is fabulous

Monochrome Set - The Jet Set Junta

I think this band grew into the Christians? I find their album a bit, uh, mid 70s rock rather than late 70s post-punk, but surely this song has to go down as a great half-forgotten post-punk track

Love this Adam & the Ants song after discovering it either down a yt rabbit hole of Numan, Adam & the Ants, or else on Radio 6...he popped up in an episode of season 4 I was watching of Northern Exposure around the same time.

None of his other stuff seems to have this gnarlier, chunkier feel though, or...?

The debut album, Dirk Wears White Sox, is recorded by that band, it's the same sound but that's the most rocknroll song from that period. There's a fair bit of stuff spread out over demos and BBC sessions on various compilations but a lot of it is unreleased outside of bootlegs.

The basic story is that he had a massive cult following but was record label kryptonite before "going pop" (if you can call Kings of the Wild Frontier pop) because his music at the time was just songs about bondage and concentration camps and bondage in concentration camps.

First Adam and the Ants lp is my favourite of all time. ( Never mind the bollocks is also acceptable)
It's definitely worth checking out all the early demos, they've been bootlegged a lot so should be easy enough to find. And a lot of the b-sides of singles for a long time were rerecordings of those early songs.

It kills me I don't have the peel LP.
Did you get any of those big boxset reissues of Dirk and Kings? I've been humming and hawwing for years but there's not much new on there bar.... shiny pieces of paper. I'd rather pick up some old singles or something.

Was there one for Dirk? I got the rsd one with all the posters and booklets and stuff. I never bothered with kings. I'd buy it if I saw it cheap

I'm sorted for that then.
Had a look, the cd version of kings can be had for cheap. I might actually just get that. The LP version is only the actual LP and then everything else on cd/dvd.

I never bought the antbox either,as I reckoned I had most if it on something or other too
