post apocalyptic/dystopian films (1 Viewer)

Spielberg's War Of The Worlds was alright, but unfortunately kids are 100% guaranteed to be annoying in any Hollywood Blockbuster. Anyway, I think I'll always prefer the book in this case.

I hated the ending of the book.
Hey, guess what? There's such a thing as bacteria. And they're tiny!
It was like a bad Tales Of The Unexpected.

Of course there would be bacteria on Mars if there was complex life.
Such piffle.

I've heard that the logic behind the book is that the Martians are analous to the European colonisers and the Humans represent the natives of Africa and the Americas - i.e. how it must have felt to be attacked by these cold, scheming minds with advanced technology. So I suppose the Martians dying of the flu might be Wells saying that the aboriginals will ultimately win out because they are adapted to their environment, unlike the colonisers. It didn't really work out like that (the colonisers had to be booted out) but it was probably plausible enough for it's time.
