can you recommend any nice hostels over there (i'm taking my wifes two younger brothers over for a barca game) or failing that any decent hotels.

more interested in good quality/location rather than price (within reason like)

The Hostel Opera is fine. Reasonably priced and slap bang in the middle of the Ramblas. It's right beside the Opera House oddly enough.

I'm afraid I can't remember the name of the place, but I stayed in a lovely hostal in place saint jeune, very reasonable and a great price. its close to the cathedral and the ramblas, though the ramblas is definitely to be avoided. Another area I stayed in is Gracia, which is really lovely. I'll try to find out the hostal name, and post again!!

Ah La Ramblas is full of colourful local types-card sharps in muscle-tops, ugly prostitutes, aggressive North African drug-dealers and more pickpockets than you can shake a stick at. Getting pick-pocketed is a rite of passage in Barcelona.

I was there last weekend and went to see Barca vs Celta Vigo. It was deadly. So much better than Dublin and taxi's are really cheap.
