People Who Died (5 Viewers)

George Curtis (1939 - 17 July 2021)
Coventry City footballer who as centre half made his debut at 16 and as captain led Coventry from the Fourth to First Division for the first time in 1967 under manager Jimmy Hill (Coventry stayed there for 34 years).
After over 500 games at Coventry he ended his career at Villa in 1972 who were actually two divisions lower than Coventry then.
Curtis then continued working in several roles at Coventry.
He and John Sillett were appointed joint managers in 1986 with the club struggling.
After some initial confusion it became clear 'Snoz' Sillett was mainly in charge of team affairs and Curtis' role was more of a general manager ala German football.
With almost nothing to spend largely the same team that finished 6th from bottom in 1985-86 flourished finishing 10th and reached the FA Cup Final (Coventry's first ever match at Wembley) including winning at Old Trafford in the 4th round.
After beating Spurs 3-2 a.e.t. in all time great Final in which Coventry were twice a goal down George returned to an upstairs role leaving Snoz Sillett in sole charge of the team.

on a personal level as a 10/11 y.o. seeing Coventry's remarkable turnaround that season (followed by several more seasons of top ten finishes) is still a great childhood memory.

The only thing liberal about O'Malley's politics was his free market economics!
He detested Haughey and his corruption and constantly criticised Charlie who organised a vote to have O'Malley purged.
The PD's were a horror show alright.

My fave PD's moment was when Tanaiste Michael 'I never miss an opportunity to say how much l disrespect the working class' McDowell lost his seat to a Green guy and also managed to finish behind Boyd-Barrett who also wasn't elected.
Despite being Ireland's most unpopular politician the fool had never seen it coming when he was crying on TV.

Mike Smith (1937 - 22 July 2021)
Londoner who managed Wales from 1974-79 and 94-95.
In 1976 he led Wales to the last 8 of the Euros and then a playoff defeat to Scotland in 1977 that cost Wales a place in the '78 World Cup. He also managed Hull before a 3 year stint with Egypt saw them become African Champions in 1986.
