People Who Died (12 Viewers)

Ernst Jean-Joseph (11 June 1948 - 14 August 2020)

Haitian defender Jean-Joseph played against Italy in their the 1974
football World Cup opening game (after taking the lead they lost 3-1)
But things went badly wrong when he tested positive and was then
beaten up by Haitian officials and flown home terrified to Haiti then
under the rule of the brutal Duvalier dictatorship.
then the FIFA attache to the Haitian team told the press of what had
happened to Jean-Joseph and was fired.
(see links for more details)
whatever happened next, Ernst survived and returned to the Haitian side
winning his last cap in 1980.

Jean-Joseph was the first footballer to test positive at a World Cup and
since then only Willie Johnston (1978) and Diego Maradona (1994) have
failed drugs tests at a World Cup.

Walter Lure
After finishing with playing with Johnny Thunders he gradually drifted out of
music in the 80's and worked in Wall Street as a stockbroker for a long time.
But after retiring he started touring again in recent years. Walter died of cancer.

EDIT: actually i stand corrected - it seems he never left rock n roll behind and
even in the 80's and 90's was doing a small amount of gigging and was on
board for any Heartbreakers reunion shows.

Fuck
I got to see him for the first time in a community hall type place in Naul for “The Good Life” tour. He was brilliant and absolutely lovely to talk to afterwards.
