Fabrice Philipot ( 24 September 1965 - 17 June 2020)
30 years ago Philipot (pronounced Filipo) was a highly promising young cyclist,
turning pro in 1988 with Toshiba, he finished second in Liege-Bastogne-Liege
in 1989. Kelly out sprinted a four man winning break with Phil Anderson 3rd
and Delgado.
he followed this up with 4th in the Dauphine and a solid 24th his debut Tour
which secured the Young riders prize.
moving to Castorama for 1990 Philipot finished 13th in the Giro and 14th in
the Tour (after his leader Fignon abandoned).
Banesto hired him to ride for Indurain who Philipot helped win 91 and 92
Tours and Giro in 92 and 93.
Philipot retired aged 29 in 1994 after a forgettable year at Chazal (Lavenu's
team, forerunner of Ag2r)

I've heard Philipot cited as a clean rider who was done out a big career with
the advent of the EPO doping era which was in full swing by 1991 but who knows ?
I cannot find any info on the cause of his death.

even commentator Gerald Sinstadt wasn't sure why
lad was sent off.
???

ah, i geddit now ! hard to see the numbers on the sky blue kit.

Scifo was voted best young player in Mexico '86.
he had a very up and down career but was excellent in Mexico and Italia 90.
he scored an offside goal (as did Jan Ceulemans) against the Soviets in last
16 match which was best game of tournament.
Scifo was level when ball was crossed but that was offside until well into 90's
when rules were changed.
shortly afterwards Scifo scored against Ireland in Jack's first competitive match.
