Norman Hunter (1943 -17 April 2020)
Leeds United and England defender.
Norman died this morning aged 76 from COVID-19.
He was Bobby Moore's understudy in 1966 World Cup and played in 1970 WC and
in total won 28 caps as a central defender.
alongside likes of Jack Charlton and John Giles he won numerous trophies at Leeds,
where he played 728 games between 1962-1976.
Norman was a League Champion in '69 and 74 but unfortunately runner up far more
than he was a winner.

he was later a coach at West Brom in 1980's with Giles.
despite his hard image on the pitch he was nothing like that off it - Norman always came
across as a very pleasant man.

the bad blood had it's origin when a couple of Chilean based Italian
journalists published an article that had dissed the country.

when Norman Hunter (then 20) was a young player.

on goal average and then losing the FA Cup Final to Liverpool in extra time.

@ 1:35 Chelsea full back Eddie McCreadie nearly ends John Giles career.
he kicks Giles in the back of the legs so hard that he ends Giles season
and injures himself in the process. McCreadie doesn't even get booked.

Kenneth Wolstenholme's commentary treats what happened as if it's
nothing abnormal.

Giles always cites this as being a major turning point in his career:
as a small skilful player he wouldn't let this happen to him again.
he'd get the first kick from now on.

from awesome compilation 'The Collection' CD, 14 all killer tracks covering period 1977-1980.

in a genre where prolific output meant a hell of a lot of filler material Bohannon
wasn't immune to filler tracks on LP's but most of his tunes are brilliant.

didn't make that connection either until today.
probably because i didn't know who Hamilton Bohannon was until late 2000's...

he used the "Bohan-non, Bohan-non..." sample at start and end of many of his tunes.
apparently this was simply to make it easy to I.D. his songs on radio.
especially as he worked with different singers.
