People Who Died (8 Viewers)

My uncle, Davitt Kelly, died after a cancer battle this morning.

He was one cool fucking dude, and one of the forefathers of Irish pirate radio, set up many stations in the 60s and 70s. Great story about how he saved up all his money to buy a transmitter, but couldn't afford either records or decks, so would just re-transmit whatever UK station he could, and speak whenever he thought the DJ was about to, so he never knew what was coming next!

He caught once in the late 60s, and my grandfather had to go to court on his behalf, to pay the princely sum of one shilling.

RIP, Big D

Sorry to hear that Dudley, sounded like a hell of a character

If ever a post deserved a hero rating, he sounds like a legend. Sorry for your loss Dudley.

Dammit. RIP.

Is there a sicker organ riff than the one on Use Me?

Gutted to hear about Bill. Seemed like such a good man amongst an array of cunts in the big time music business. Walked away mid 80s and never returned, more or less.

and back to football:
Ezio Vendrame (1947- 5 April 2020)
Italian player who makes his English contemporary cult fave Robin Friday
sound more like Sir Trevor Brooking. (w/ obligatory comparsions to Best)
some bizarre on pitch tales recounted here well worth a read.
Ezio Vendrame - Wikipedia

I've read a lot of wiki articles on Italian footballers written in this style
(likely by same person) and this gives Vendrame treatment normally
reserved for a far more successful player.

some other football folks. going to be lazy and just post wiki links:

Arnold Sowinski (1931-2 April 2020)

Zaccaria Cometti (1937- 2 April 2020)

Bergamo club. he died from COVID-19.
Zaccaria Cometti - Wikipedia (Italian wiki)

in late February 40,000 people watched Atalanta beat Valencia in Milan
as their own stadium in Bergamo wasn't suitable to host perhaps the
biggest match in the clubs history.
a fortnight later this match seemed to have a devasting affect on the city.
and Cometti wasn't the first former player of the club to die from the virus.

Mario Chaldu (1942- 1 April 2020)
Chaldu won 5 caps for Argentina and was in 1966 WC squad but didn't play.

Goyo Benito (1946 - 2 April 2020)
Real Madrid (1966-82) and Spain footballer.
Goyo won 6 Liga titles and 5 Cups playing at centre back.
he played in 1971 European Cup Winners Cup (lost to Chelsea after replay)
but missed 1981 European Cup Final defeat to Liverpool.

he was suffering from Alzheimer's when he died in a care home in

another strange memory i have of Antic - is that as assistant manager of
Partizan Belgrade in 1986-87, they were told several weeks after the season
ended that they had actually won the League despite finishing second to
Vardar Skopje.
Partizan and several other teams were given back 6 points they had deducted in
a match fixing scandal, which meant that Skopje only finished 5th in the table.
Skopje led by a young Darko Pancev would have been the only Macedonian
team to become Yugoslav Champs but it wasn't to be.

(also Radomir was born the same day as my Dad...)
