Pietro Anastasi (1948 - 17 January 2020)
Italian footballer.
Born in Catania Sicily, Anastasi began his career in Lombardy with Varese.
in 1968 he scored a hat trick in a 5-0 win against Juventus who signed
him that year for a world record 650 billion Lira.

in English he is often called the first £500,000 player.

also in 1968 he was included as an uncapped/unused squad member in Italy's
European Championship winning squad.
Anastasi was a late omission from Italy's 1970 World Cup squad due to injury.
between 1968-75 he won 25 caps (8 goals) including playing in all 3 matches
in Italy's disappointing World Cup 1974 Finals campaign (although he scored
against Haiti).

playing as a creative forward Anastasi flourished at Juve winning 3 Serie A titles
and scoring 78 Serie A goals in 205 games (130 goals in 303 games in total)
and became club captain in 1974.
with Juve he lost club lost two European Finals to Leeds and Ajax (1973 European Cup).

he left Juve in 1976 and had much less successful spells at Inter (won 1978
Coppa Italia) and Ascoli (club's most successful era) and finished his career
in Suisse with Lugano, retiring in 1982.
in 338 games he scored 105 Serie A goals (a fairly rare feat in 1960's-early 90's era).

Anastasi was later a pundit and had been suffering with cancer for some time.

We're due a biggie. Haven't had one in a while.
yer Elton's and yer Paul McCartney's are getting on and all but I figure Eddie Van Halen might be next, years of strong alcoholism and cancer...

Alternatively, Harry Belafonte is 93 and Kirk Douglas is 103.

Been already thinking about which songs to post when Dylan, McCartney and one of the Rolling Stones go...

Reckon Neil Young and Gene Hackman would make me genuinely sad
