I always hated Simply The Best but I came to respect it after volunteering at the Special Olympics one time. After every competition they would blast Simply The Best over the PA. I'd say it was played about 50 times that day. The competitors LOVED it. Singing at the top of their voices and punching the air. Hard not to be won over

Had a similar different experience with Westlife (or possibly Boyzone)
They were playing Croker and I was all snooty about it

Morning of the gig, Clonliffe Road is filled with every manner of music fan, age-gender-body size, including no small population of kids facing physical and other challenges.
All happy, all chuffed to bits with their day out. All feeling included.

I never saw that one goddamn time at a show for a band I liked. All my gigs are full of dudes appreciatively head-nodding along to whatever song is being played.

The kids know where it's at, man.
