People Who Died (8 Viewers)

Serb footballer and manager Sinisa Mihajlovic (1969 - 16 December 2022) has died of leukemia.

Born to a Bosnian Serb father and Croat mother Mihaijlovic was a excellent, very tough defender who often played on the limit.
Mihaijlovic was also probably the most controversial player of his time - with a long rap sheet.

He won the 1991 European Cup with Red Star Belgrade before moving to Italy and winning Serie A w/ Lazio in 1999-2000 and Inter in 2004-05.
Mihajlovic also won 63 caps (10 goals) for Yugoslavia.
He was one of the best free kick takers ever despite being a defender. He scored a record 28 free kicks in Serie A and once scored a hat trick of free kicks for Lazio.
After finishing playing he had a long career as a manager in Serie A.

After the war began in Yugoslavia Mihaijlovic was an extreme Serb nationalist after family home in Vukovar (the city suffered huge damage) was burnt down by Croats.
Mihaijlovic cited Arkan (notorious gangster turned warlord who was murdered in a Belgrade hotel) as a friend.
Mihajlovic was also charged with racially abusing Patrick Vieira after a Lazio v Arsenal match.
Another memorable moment was being sent off in Euro 2000 v Slovenia in match where Yugoslavia went 3-0 down before rallying to draw 3-3.

Mihaijlovic was working as a manager until a few months ago when he was sacked by Bologna.

Sorry - I managed to spell Mihajlovic wrong 4 times out of 7.
he must have gotten on much better w/ Vieira when they were playing together at Inter as Patrick played in his testimonial in Serbia.

Arkan and Sinisa:

Arkan was a crazy bastard of Montenegrin origins who came from a socialist Yugoslavian establishment family. But he was a tearaway from a young age. Long before he was a war criminal, he was wanted in many countries (for big time robberies etc) and frequently escaped from jails across Europe.
in the 80's he became a big time gangster in Serbia.

That could be a Stalin biography funny enough

This is one of those songs that stops me in my tracks, takes me back to when I first heard it and I can remember exactly who I was then
Back when singers and bands and songs had life all figured out, if I could just tap the code

RIP

My Terry Hall story. I am as aware of the specials etc as any person of my age. Then about 5 years ago I played the B side of Ghost Town. Loved it. Bought the first album, love it. Bought the second album. Didn't like it. The end. Still though RIP.

A beautiful tribute Mr Vine.

I remember giving out to Anthony for not liking the second Specials album, I was right as well. The third one is also class, although no Terry Hall.

Been meaning to check out his post Colourfield stuff for YEARS now, maybe it's time?

I think i first came across him when he appeared with Blur at the RDS in 1996 and they did a pretty faithful cover of Nite Klub, looks like they did it in on French tv also
