I saw him give a talk in Trinity about 5 years ago, I kind of wanted to hate him but he spoke very well and seemed like a decent guy. So I figure he was probably responsible for loads of monstrosities.

cos I thought that was him on the cover. But I think thats Botha and he was a different barrel of fishes.

PW Botha was a contender for most unpopular man in the world in the 80's. he was absolutely detested and still is. things were hopeless in SA until he went which might explain why De Klerk was so well received.
De Klerk whether he deserved it was considered a Gorbachev type figure 30 years ago.
he actually got a very positive response at Mandela's funeral.
