Dai Davies (1948 - 10 February 2021)
Goalkeeper for Wales football team (1975-82) winning 52 caps.

Dai qualified as a P.E. teacher before turning pro with Swansea.
after spending seven years at Everton (70-77) mostly as a back up keeper he joined Wrexham
who were promoted to Division 2 in 1977-78 - their only spell in the second tier.
from 1981-83 Davies had another spell in Division 1 with John Toshack's Swansea.

at international level Wales were difficult opponents in Davies time.
Wales were quarter finalists in Euro '76 and were denied one of the 16 places at
the 1978 World Cup after losing a playoff to Scotland at Anfield (perhaps Scotland's best ever team).
they also beat England at Wembley in 1977 and again 4-1 in Wrexham in 1980.
While a 3-0 defeat in the Soviet Union in their final qualifier cost Wales a place in the 1982
World Cup on goal difference.
Davies won his final cap in 1982, the year another Welsh great Nev Southall made his debut.

after football Davies worked as a bilingual commentator, returned to teaching and was always a
strong advocate for Welsh culture (see links).
Dai was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2020.

Ha! Citation strongly needed :)

I think it's in the documentary "The Wrecking Crew" which was made by Tommy Tedesco*'s son. Blaine said there was probably an accidental hit on one of the takes that just worked.

* I'm probably spelling his name wrong, he was a played guitar, ukulele, mandolin** etc. on a lot of sessions with those folks.

** Probably most famously on The Godfather theme.
