People Who Died (10 Viewers)

Richard Swift. Name definitely rings a bell, but the acts he's worked with are well known.

I saw a tweet basically describing him as the sound of indie rock for the last 15 years or so and was going "who?"

Alan Gilzean (1938 - 8 July 2018) former Scottish footballer best remembered for striking partnership with Jimmy Greaves at Spurs in 60's.
Greavsie loved playing with Gilzean but i knew he rarely saw him after they finished playing.
turns out he had a quite life outside football and claimed he didn't like football during his career...

at his previous club Dundee he won the club's only championship in 1962 and got to a European
cup semi final the following season (Bob Shankly - Bill's brother - was Dundee's manager).
Gilzean was probably the club greatest player.
after fellow Scot John White died after being struck by lighting on a golf course Gilzean was signed by Tottenham to replace him and he played there for the ten years winning 1967 FA Cup, 1972 UEFA Cup and two League Cups.
he also won 22 caps for Scotland with 12 goals inc. 3 against West Germany and one against England.
(until 90's Scotland always seemed to have five top players for every position - some very good players were never capped).
Irish fans will also remember his son Ian (St. Pats etc.)

should have posted this sooner.

Paul Madeley (1944 - 23 July 2018)
a one club footballer with home town club Leeds Utd he won 24 caps between 71-77.
usually a defender Paul was utility player who played in every out field position
between 63-80 (536 League games alone).
winning two league titles and a series of other trophies but was also being a serial
runner up with Leeds.
seven years after retiring he and his two brothers famously sold their sports shop
business for £27 million (!) in 1987.
sadly he later suffered a brain tumor, a heart attack and Parkinsons.

also a friend of mine died suddenly last tuesday - RIP great guy.

Andreas Kappes (1965 - 30 July 2018)
German road and track cyclist.
after successful start to road career (victories in 1988 Giro stage, 1991 Het Volk etc.)
he concentrated on track as 90's progressed and later won 24 six day races on winter circuit.
but... he was also banned for six months for doping in 1997.
he died of severe reaction to insect bite.

read that in the cycling press yesterday. Hadn't heard of him before. Went the same way as Fausto Coppi (if you dismiss the conspiracy theories).

Armand De Las Cuevas (1968 - 2 August 2018)
another premature cycling death.
Armand was a TT specialist stage racer in the vein of his early teamate
Indurain.

a pro from 1989-99 he took some major victories inc. 1991 French champion.
1994 San Sebastian classic and several stage races.

but his career in three week races was poor: he only finished four (of 11).
even when he won a stage early in 94 Giro and then took the lead for a day
he could only finish 9th after the likes of Pantani blew him away in the mountains.
he only finished the Tour once but did finish second to Indurain in famous 1992 Tour
TT in Luxembourg over 65 km. despite finishing well clear of the riders behind him
he still finished 3 MINUTES behind Mig.

after several poor years he had a come back to win the '98 Dauphine and Route
de Sud - his final victories.
by the end of his career Armand's name was regularly associated with under
achievement in the media.

he later moved to Reunion and sadly took his own life there on Thursday.
