Never heard of him before today but some comments today make me want to check him out but In that nyt obit he's quoted saying that the guitar solos of Eric Clapton were an influence on his writing

I've read Train Dreams and Jesus' Son. Both amazing. Keep meaning to get around to Tree of Smoke.

Train Dreams is alright, Tree of Smoke is great. Jesus' Son is a contender for my favourite book of all time. Apparently he has another short story collection to be released posthumously. Really looking forward to that.
