There is a certain kind of bravado about how "it's a contact sport and a couple of digs is OK within reason". Can't say I agree with that kind of thinking - assault is assault.

TBH things like the McRae incident are quite rare, especially considering the variation in stature generally between the 30 players.

I think what people do overlook and it's very important to remember every player on a rugby pitch is dependent on every other player for his safety. In every single scrum, ruck, lineout there is the possibility for serious, even fatal injuy. Every time a player plays he is putting his safety not only in the hand of his teammates but in the opposition as well.

This is the disicpline that people are talking about.
