Hey all - it's been yonks since I posted here but I am getting back in the groove of home recording after a long time and was just wondering what kind of gear people would recommend for a basic, cheap-ish set-up - I.e. - soundcard/DAW/monitors/mics/pre-amps/PC specifications. Any useful info would be greatly appreciated !

If you want a cheap and cheerful sound card, something like a fast track pro can be picked up for 60 second hand. good for getting you started

I got nice little edirol interface for about 50 on adverts.
DAW - Reaper.fm - a great piece of software.
generic mics are a good start. SM58 and A rode NT1. Maybe a DI.
4-8gb of ram.
