I think this whole business with the Martin Brennan character is really instructive about the context of comedy and who the target is. In the show the target was Partridge/The Beeb/what British people are comfortable with.

The dude is probably well intentioned but just didn't get it. More of a microaggression due to his failure to examine his privilege. y'know.
