National Open Pro-Choice Meeting

Saturday, December 8, 2012 12:00pm until 3:00pm

All who are interested in ensuring that what happened to Savita Halappanavar and others before her never happens again to another woman in Ireland, all who seek to ensure that women's rights to life, health and self-determination are respected and protected on this island are invited to an open meeting to launch a national pro-choice campaign on December 8th. It will be held in Dublin city centre. The venue is the Gresham Hotel on O'Connell Street.

If you have accessibility needs, please contact us; [email protected]. The Gresham is accessible by means of a portable ramp and a lift to the meeting room which needs to be operated by a member of staff. We want anyone who wants to attend to be able to do so easily, so if we can let the venue know beforehand what our needs as a group are, they can ensure staff members are on hand to see to them as the need arises.

We don't know what happened her though.

You can choose to disbelieve her husband if you so wish.

Many women phoned in to Liveline relating how they were left in agony for days, denied painkillers or any medical treatment until the foetal heartbeat ceased. They were the lucky ones.

You can choose to disbelieve them as well.

Well, her husband has told us how she was treated or rather not treated in the hospital. The women who phoned up Liveline made her husbands story credible.

Again it is a case of deciding whether or not you believe them.

I do.

Galway pro-choice activists held a protest one month and three days after Savita Halappanavar died in a Galway Hospital after being refused an abortion when she was miscarrying.

The protest was marked by poetry by Elaine Feeney (very poignant) and Sarah Clancy with some words by a family friend and speeches with prochoice activists.

The protest paused briefly outside a Labour Party TD's constituency office to hand in petitions calling for legislation on the X case.
