N.A.S.A.
The brain child of DJ/producer Sam Spiegel (aka Squeak E. Clean) and Brazilian DJ Ze Gonzales, N.A.S.A. is the now renowned hip-hop DJ collective responsible for the remarkable The Spirit of Apollo album, released February 16th of this year. Based primarily in Brazilian funk, the album has become the virtual who’s who of cutting edge music industry players, featuring over thirty guest mega-stars including David Byrne, Santogold, Kanye West, Lykke Li, Ghostface Killah, and many more. Following a theme of breaking down sonic boarders, N.A.S.A. (North America/South America) managed to engineer some of the more unlikely cross-genre collaborations we’ve seen for a while, including the pairing of Tom Waits on a track with Kool Keith, and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
“a galaxy of greatness … a giant feast for mankind” (8/10) (NME on The Spirit of Apollo)

ABOUT SQUEAK E. CLEAN: Sam Spiegel is a composer, producer, DJ and remixer. Sam has spun all over the World – from award shows and clubs to premieres and parties and fashion shows in Japan, Brazil, Morocco, Canada, Australia, England and all over the US. Spiegel frequently collaborates with his brother, filmmaker Spike Jonze. Notably, he scored and compiled the soundtrack for the Jonze-directed cult classic "Yeah Right!" (the top-selling skateboard movie of all time), and the two worked together with Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on an Adidas commercial that won the Gold Lion for Best Music at the 2005 Cannes International Advertising Festival and Silver for Original Music at the 2006 Clio Awards. While Spiegel has produced and remixed tracks for Maroon 5, Iggy Pop, Kylie Minogue, the Eels, Ben Lee, the Cardigans and many more, 2006 marked the first Squeak E. Clean fully-produced album. Show Your Bones, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs sophomore record, was named "Album of the Year" by the likes of Rolling Stone, NME, and Spin, and was nominated for a Grammy for best alternative album.

ABOUT DJ ZEGON: A professional skateboarder who has evolved into one of the most sought after, cutting-edge DJs in Latin America, Ze Gonzales has carved out his own musical niche that marries traditional Brazilian beats with underground hip hop, creating a sound and vibe that places Zegon in a class all his own. Recently, Ze spent two years in Los Angeles working with longtime friend - and fellow Brazilian -- Mario C, the producer and engineer behind such artists as Beastie Boys, Tone Loc, Young MC and Bjork.

Ashley Beedle

Ashley Beedle has been involved in more projects than a US building marshal. His style is as diverse as his hometown’s cultural crucible (London) and his productions have been championed by artists ranging from Danny Tenaglia to Fabio and Grooverider as well as Gilles Peterson to John Digweed. Where do we start in doing this man’s career justice in so few words?
He brought house music to Notting Hill Carnival, he produced one of the first British garage tunes and his initial production as Black Science Orchestra on Junior Boys Own broke him internationally. X-Press 2’s massive hit, “Lazy”, an inspired collaboration with former Talking Head David Byrne, and other number one hits has meant X-Press 2’s albums have traveled the globe and at the time of writing this they are currently number one on the US Billboard Club Breakouts chart.
The remixes have ranged from pop and rockband bands, little house labels; hip hop mixes, house mixes; as a solo remixer, and as part of X-Press 2. There really are too many to mention, though Elton John’s number one hit “Are You Ready for Love?” and Bob Marley’s “Get Up Stand Up” spring to mind.

Other projects: worthy of mention include: Delta House Of Funk, Disco Evangelists with protégé David Holmes (Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13 Hollywood score master), Roots Revolution on Roger Sanchez’ label, the demon dub-house of Jamayka Boys (championed by many as the first Dub Step production), Black Jazz Chronicles, Afro Art, and, of course, the Ballistic Brothers. Similarly there are two many compilations to fit within this word count but Strut’s Grass Roots series that Ashley launched has earned its place in history as well as most DJ’s boxes.

Ashley’s ability to always stay ahead of the pack continues with his futuristic reggae inspired Warbox project (which has included chart smashing remixes for the likes of Lilly Allen), a rock techno inspired project with the Filthy Dukes’ Mark Ralph, called Ralph und Beedle, a blue eyed soul project called Mavis (which has already been joined by Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner amongst others) and of course, more disco output from his moniker as London Heavy Disco Review and his label, Out Hear Audio. Toddla T

Cut yer boy TODDLA T open and you’ll be vaporized by the pure Sheffield electronics crackling inside him. The Steel City ‘Bleep’ bubbles right through the blood, brains and musical meat of this dirty rascal’s DJ stints, rerubs and original night-time material. Weaned on the teat of bashment from a young age Mr T rolled through his early years on his hands and knees with ears glued to the speakers of his folks’ hi fi. Making beats, bass, blunts and girls filled his adolescence until he was crowned as inhouse studio boff at Sheffield’s Kenwood Studios at the grand old age of 19. His debut album “Shanky Shanky” came out in May to an ecstatic reception. A high-energy debut that embraces dancehall, electronic music and bassline, the bonkers strain of speed-garage native to his home town.
