Would hate to be stuck on a train journey with Tim Morse.

Good documentary, pity there wasn't more of the English stuff in there, but loads of new bands for me files now.

just came to post that "new breed doc" watched it last night good watch... this was great to.

yeah, it was a good doc. he got a lot in for 98 minutes.
main criticisms are the roots of grind aren't really explored and nothing on Latin America.

BRIGADA DO ODIO are probably the first grind band to release a record
in 1985 split LP w/ OHLO SECO (i think they shared members).

also other Sao Paulo HC bands ULSTER, RUIDOS ABSURDOS and SP CAOS are
precursors of grind.
(same with Norweigan black metal wouldn't have existed without
bands like SARCOFAGO or Medellin bands like PARABELLUM)

then from Europe RAPT, KUOLEMA, AGONIA (Zambo WRETCHED drummer's project),
ASOCIAL (1982 demo), SKUM DRIBBLURZZZ (two live gigs were recorded)
and US bands like CYANAMID etc etc.
and that just the punk end of the story.

some of the above bands sound crazed high speed versions of DISORDER doing
short songs i.e. some of my favourite music !

noisecore bands like GEROGERIGEGEGE and 7 MINUTES OF NAUSEA also started in 1985.

tape traders (like N.D. lads) would have known some of these bands.

some other bands like very early HALF JAPANESE or RED CRAYOLA at times sound
like noisecore.
RED CRAYOLA - track 12) 'Free Form Jam' from Parable of The Arable Land LP (1967)
go to track 12 starts @ 32:10

getting back To Slave to The Grind -
i assume the director is Canadian as DECHE CHARGE and FUCK THE FACTS
are included ?
the D.C. guys are legends in the noisecore scene but are otherwise better known
for their grind bands DAHMER and MESRINE.
anyway as a big fan of D.C. it was a nice surprise when Dan and the guys turned
up. remember the time SORE THROAT put 90 songs on the side of an LP
(Diagrace to the Corpse of Sid) ? D.C. based their entire sound on that.

THINKSHIT was those guys first grind band (1993)
i think this is really great, some stuff the did had a female vocalist
(there is also video of them playing live) :

strangely i've never actually been in contact with D.C. personally despite
listening to them for 26 years.

AGATHOCLES was one of few European bands mentioned.
like DOOM they could be on a big label, play big metal festivals etc.
but they've chosen to do things in their own terms.
the last decade plus has been the best period for them since their early days.

about 20 years ago i repeatedly heard the music press mention ANAL CUNT
as being the most offensive band but not having listened to them since
mid 90's i thought that it was just to do with the name.
then one day about 2001 i looked up them up online and found a link to
It Just Gets Worse......
WTF had they become ?
for a band that had no lyrics on their early EP's Seth should have just
stuck to "Bleeaaaarrrruuuuuggghhhh...."

Tim Morse always struck me as Seth's wipping boy (Seth's email
address was once: timmorseisgay@.....)
interesting to hear from him.

the fight with Bob from DROP DEAD was another moment (clarified).
Bob is obviously an intense guy and it's hard to have any sympathy
for Seth but attacking him led to a lot more violence.
anyway Bob has his say.

Seth sang for SIEGE in 1991 and Bob has sung with them on stage
more recently.

Jon Chang was another guy who seemed once close to both A.C. and D.D.
i really like early DISCORDANCE AXIS raw noisy stuff i find their later
stuff (and any technical grind) almost impossible to like.

D.A. material has been out of print for a surprisingly long time.

another moment was the photo of Phil Lynott on Scott Carlsson's wall - yeah.

a book on how influential South American bands were on extreme metal
and punk music is a story that needs to be told as bands from other parts
of the world tend to get the credit for popularizing what they often started.

Gene Vincent - Rock and Roll Singer. This is sad but also the concert footage is great.

Anyone watch that recent ZZ Top documentary with them all on it? Don’t bother, it’s lazy shite. Shame when a band of that stature gives their time to a doc that’s so superficial.

this is essential viewing, but it suffers from the same problem most of these
films do - lack of footage from the time.
Italy circa 1981/82- 86/87 had, IMO, the hardcore scene ever.

Italian label F.O.A.D. also published the definitive written history of the Furious Years
scene Dritti Contro Un Muro by Giorgio Senesi in 2019 to tie in with documentary
it's 512 pages in Italian told by the protagonists themselves. the photos, flyers reprints
and discography make it a no brainer even if you can't read the lingo.
it's an unbelievable piece of work with even far flung place likes Sardinia, Sicily
and the deep South getting their due.

LINK to book page on FOAD site (which also has link to trailer for the book):

since i mentioned AGONIA in previous grind post above:

i think this is the first side of the LP ?
this was an LP from 1985 released as a solo project by late period WRETCHED
drummer Zambo. it's musically a precursor of noise/grind similar to RAPT
from France whose EP came out on WRETCHED's Chaos Produzioni.
https://www.discogs.com/Agonia-Nessuna-Agonia-Ci-Farà-Morire/release/2978167

(for the record i don't own a copy of this. it's out of my price range)

this is a hard record to reissue. a lot of the LP is spoken word and a large
part of it is an interview with an alcoholic.
so there isn't a whole lot music on it and it came on clear vinyl with lots of inserts
related to issues of the time.

Ian shows lots of old things he's collected, it seems he never throws out anything -
even thousands of letters, motel bills, record shops receipts from 1970's,
a photocopy of Springa's (SSD) high school yearbook photo etc.
lots of talk about 40 years ago and the problems of Covid-19 lockdown...

i mentioned above that a lot of extreme metal has Latin American origins,
this doc is about PARABELLUM and the 1980's Medellin metal scene.
this was actually made by Vice.

.
also worth mentioning that in 1990 Euronymous offered HADEZ from Lima
a record deal (letter is reprinted on reissue of HADEZ's 1986 -1990 early demos).
