Saudi To Fingerprint US Travellers

Americans entering Saudi Arabia are to be fingerprinted as part of a tit-for-tat feud with the US.

America announced last week that citizens entering the US from counties considered state sponsors of terrorism would be fingerprinted.

The move is part of a general tightening of entry restrictions to the US.

Saudi Arabai said it may introduce similar restrictions against the 30,000 Americans who live in the kingdom.

"The embassy wishes to advise American citizens that in the near future the government of Saudi Arabia may start requiring American citizens to be fingerprinted as part of their visa or entry process," the embassy said in a wardens' message.

"There also is the possibility that the duration of visas to Saudi Arabia will be shortened for American citizens and visa fees increased."

America claims 15 of the 19 September 11 suicide hijackers were Saudis, inspired by Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden.

Saudi newspapers claim hundreds of Saudi and Arab students have been unable to continue their studies after they were denied entry to the US.

The US State Department has said their visas were only delayed.
