its weird. gonna try sticking some on the back side of a bodhran, right in the centre for more sustain.
on the edge of the snare, it gets rid of nasty overtones. feels funky to the touch too.

I don't either, really. Way I look at it, the more sustain the better. Let the sound man gate what he doesn't want in the mix. On Stage, though, let it ring and mix with the ambiance of the room.
A lot of bodhran players put a nice 'gob'(slang for the 'shihai(centre dot on the treble drum in a set of tabla)) of bluetac on the back side of their drums to increase sustain. Although the shahai is made of bulgar wheat and iron fillings and is rigid, the added mass is what gives tabla it resonant sustained sound.
Gonna play around with the moon gel, particularly on the kick to see what it does. May need a few packs of it though.
Was around 6 euro for 6, 1inch discs, of it at A1 in Navan.
and it did tighten up my snare a bit this evening.

is THAT what that was? i was dropping your snare back into the room and i thought some evil fucker had stuck his blackjack chewing gum to your skin.
