“Wrapped around the chill of a droning keyboard and his own Alan Vega-style monotone, Johnson's guitar is like a heat lamp, brightening the tune's dark vibe until it glows like crackling embers.” - Pitchfork

“Escape finds Johnson reveling in the murky pop stylings of Suicide, the motorik rhythm of Neu!, and the ecstatic clatter of The Velvet Underground.” – Tiny Mix Tapes

“…buried vocals, sinister, Suicide-style atmospherics, and tons and tons and tons of reverb… - Dusted Magazine

A project of Wooden Shjips’ Erik Johnson and Sanae Yamada, San Francisco's Moon Duo are a psychedelic Krautrock pair with chilly electronic underpinnings and drones.

Rather than representing a departure from the hazy, drug-addled psychedelia of Wooden Shjips, Moon Duo functions as a natural creative extension for Johnson.

Inspired initially by John Coltrane and Rashied Ali, Moon Duo counts such variant groups as Silver Apples, Royal Trux, Moolah, Neu!, Suicide, and Cluster as touchstones. Utilizing primarily guitar, keyboards, percussion, and vocals, the pair plays space against form to create a primordial and disorienting sonic stew.

The group formed in 2009 and began issuing releases in short order, including the Love on the Sea 12" on Sick Thirst, which they followed with the Killing Time EP on Sacred Bones. Moon Duo made the jump to Woodsist for 2010’s full-length Escape, which offered the most expansive and melodic take on their trippy sounds yet.

The Black Triangle
The Black Triangle formed in 2009 with ex-members of former Dublin rock outfits, Bambi and Future Kings of Spain making up the complement. This power trio delivers a blend of rhythmically angular and melodically obscure alternative rock with expert precision.

Sonically, you can expect bright sparkling guitars, low down dirty bass and solid drums with vocal showers throughout.
