It was pretty clearly connected to raves,or whatever they are called. No doubt some would have got mixed up in shit either way but the connections to that scene was way too big for it to be coincidence.

I guess I could look at punk in a similar way. Sorry you lost some mates to that shit. I have too and it's profoundly depressing to witness.

Comparatively it's not nearly the same. the numbers of people who became idiots as a result of drugs as part of that world way dwarfs the amount of people who became idiots as a result of anything else.

It was very much considered a necessary thing to be on drugs to go along to those events. I cant think of any other scene where it was nearly as dominant.

Every drug has a soundtrack, I'm more in agreement with @_Katie_ that people find these things if they want to find them. Everyone seems to be on ket these past two years and Jesus the music is fucking awful. a few years back there was a big surge in synthetics and that pushed that electro music with the triplets and the bass drops way further than it would ever have gone without - cant remember what they called it. You go to a punk gig and theres mostly people on beer, a few doing grass and *maybe* a few on uppers, but largely is the music of beer. Cocaine is everywhere again which is terrible for music too, because on cocaine fucking everything is great and that makes it easy to just whack on the top 40 greatest hits of twenty years ago and everyone is spellbound. The rave/E era was horrible, I agree, but i honestly think the music is much more dependent on the drug than anything. Only sentimental oulfellas listen to trance now like.

I'm not contradicting that, I'm just looking at more than one scene and more than one drug over more than one era, and while events in the microcosm tend to play on the memory looking at the macro its a lot like bees going with whatever flowers are available at the time.
