Ah I only just got your reference there. The "R", I'm guessing, refers to it being my right hand. That's something they asked several times, as well as what my job is (USING MY HANDS!) and which is my stronger hand. I think that meant I got to jump the queue a bit. I was in and out in four hours on a Friday evening. Unreal.
 
Cap'n daughter is staying over, I had housemate and his new girlfriend help assemble an IKEA bed. "Seanc are you bleeding?".
"Yeah, probably."

Anyway the daughter just arrived and has no idea of the the shit show that preceded her arrival.in showbiz, we call that success.
 
Passing the site on Harcourt St where they’ve ripped down that big Garda building. Not just because of its symbolism but so much blue sky in a previously gloomy part of the street.
 
Barring a calamity, today is the 5 month in a row I will have done 200+ press ups per day
Currently at 31,889 for the year with a target of 73,000. Will prolly make 75k tho.

fwiw, these were stupid hard when I started and slowly I built up. I could barely manage 3 in a row. Which is to say that anyone can do this kind of thing.

No one is ever gonna make me a swimsuit model, but the transformation of my upper body has been pretty remarkable. Torso, arms, neck, core. All for about 5 minutes per day.



This is meant to be encouraging rather than bragging, but that’s a hard tone to get right.
 
Don't you start talking about tone, you lean braggart.
I am not lean
And I likely never will be

But I have a new relationship with my body (ooohh, vicar)
I love it for what it can do now and it rewards me for taking half-decent care of it

I am very late in life to this, but it's no less revelatory for all that

How are you doing these? Is it a greasing the groove style thing where you do 25 10 times a day?

Well done on doing it all without getting injured. I hadn't done press ups in ages, and injured my shoulder getting back into it in Jan, haven't been able to do upper-body exercises since. Tried to do greasing the groove with pull-ups once too, injured my elbow, took about 6 months to heal

I am not familiar with greasing the groove
I am just fitting them into my day somehow. Like I will try and do a set when I get up and another before I leave the house. 20 pressups will take around 20-30 seconds, give or take.
For a while I was at 15-20 per set and doing a set every 10 minutes in the evening - but there's always a way to fit it in with how you're living. Or I think so anyways.
Right now I have worked up to 30 per set and I do them in pairs. So 3 sessions per day more or less.
Luckily I have not gotten injured - didn't really think that was possible with such low impact stuff.

Like I am not some gym hero. Can't to a pull up to save my life. Can't touch my toes... not even close.


What's helped me is being in a WHatsapp group of other people doing similar. Everyone's on their own number, but having an accountability check-in is good. Puts that little bit of discipline on you.

Actually housemate wants to join the government funded gym up the way. Other flatmate said no, go to this other gym. No you damn victim or capitalism I didn't say, our local socialist one has a sauna and a swimming pool. Anyway, housemate number 1, if you're really into the idea comrade, I said, please drag me along. We'll drag each other along.

I figure pushups are just planks with some movement

If you're gonna go, set yourself a small goal. Like swimming a length of the pool or running a mile on the treadmill, or lifting a certain amount or whatever. That is more likely to bring you back.
First time I swam a full length properly, I was cock-a-hoop.
