Does putting one of these into a phone/tablet increase the performance or is it merely there to add more music/videos?

What he said and all!

Is it just additional external storage or does the phone use it for work it's doing?

Enquiring minds would like to know.

It just increases storage capacity, won't make the device any faster.

7: For a phone, I wouldn't care too much about what type of card you get. If you really want to be pedantic about it, it's the write speeds nerds are concerned about (especially if they're being used in HD cameras to record video / take bursts of images, higher write speed = better). For a phone, any bog standard one will suffice. Some devices aren't compatible with really large micro/SD cards but 32GB is pretty much an entry point at this stage.

Thanks for responding.

So the phone will automatically use it to back up stuff I'm streaming and whatnot?
i.e. use the card as supplemental memory storage to its own without me telling it to do so.

It's a major pain the in hoop, I got a fairly cheap Samsung Galaxy Ace last year, I literally have 4 apps installed and every two weeks it tells me the memory is low.
What the fuck do you want from me!?

my hot tip for low memory androids if you have infinite data. just install and uninstall apps as you need them. i.e. twitter + soundcloud i only need portably about once a month.
