Always interested in this. How certain pedals become associated with certain players. Obviously everyone uses Big Muffs but Billy Corgan is probably most famous for using them across whole albums. Jack White and the Digitech Whammy another well known association.

I'll kick it off with this

Deerhunter use this one quite a bit. Bradford Cox said he was about to stop writing on guitar at one point and he squeezed a few ideas more once this came along. Think Saint Vincent uses it as well.

Aside from Frampton's Talkbox I haven't a clue

This was the chorus that Kurt Cobain preferred apparently:

Jeff Tweedy used this all over A Ghost Is Born. Probably sold it since then.

Hell is Chrome solo:

J mascis of Dino Jr collects Big Muffs
And I think their early records are littered with that pedal.

Albini and the IVP preamp / Traynor Preamp and Harmonic Erxolator pedal

I would have said Jack white used a EH POG too as well as the Digitwch whammy

DOD envelope filter for that squelchy solo guitar in Radiohead’s Paranoid Android (O’Brien or Greenwood?)

I can’t remember the actual website showing guitarists’ set-ups as diagrams but there’s a few saved on this blog

J Mascis stacks his Big Muff on top of a couple of Zvex Box of Rocks and then adds more fuzz (Tone Bender) or treble booster (Rangemaster) for solos.

Yeah he definitely uses a POG although I believe the 'bass' part on 'Seven Nation Army' is the Whammy.

Greenwood. O'Brien barely plays half the time.

I know there is a risk of this thread getting very nerdy (nothing wrong with that) but I was hoping mostly just to match pedals to songs for the most part. For example, I know Albini is a big exponent of the Harmonic Percolator but what tune would exemplify that pretty well or is it just everywhere?

Speaking of the Tone Bender, Jimmy Page was obviously famous for using it but also Paul McCartney used it on his bass for this one:

Electro-Harmonix Next Step Talking Pedal Vocal Formant Wah Pedal with Fuzz

Kristin Hersh: That’s my favorite pedal... It distorts at the top of the wave and mellows at the bottom into this ’70s bass sound. It can carry a whole song. It’s hypnotic. It doesn’t have the effect you’d think a fuzz wah would have. I don’t know—it’s just really charming and awful, and I love it....

Then I lost it in my house flood with all my other equipment. I’d always wanted another one, even though I was scared to let myself play it again because I get so annoying with them. Then a friend picked one up for me for my birthday, and I was so psyched. I brought it to the studio—it was like, “Yeah, I have my sound back!” And it sounded like a beer commercial. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Do I suck now? Is it 50 Foot Wave that was good, not me? And then I realized it’s because the old one was totally screwed up, and that’s why it sounded so cool. So I soaked the new one in water, and now it works perfectly.
