Good article,my vinyl copy of disintegration has a
"this music was mixed to be played loud,so turn it up"
warning on the inside,you dont see that anymo'!
 
that stooges album is weird
it finished up louder than it starts
cuz when i listen to it on repeat non-stop
i always have to crank it when i get back
to 'search and destroy'.

they should probably re-record that entire
ablum with steve albini or something though
 
clipping produces flattened square waves, which are extremely fatiquing on both the speaker and the eardrum. apparently reports of hearing damaged related to the quality of the soundwaves and not so much the volume are now coming in...

i guess it makes sense that the sharp jagged corners where peaks are clipped would catch on and cut the ear more sharply than the soft rounded curves of a normal sound wave which might pass into the ear without friction. never thought of that before.
