clipping produces flattened square waves, which are extremely fatiquing on both the speaker and the eardrum. apparently reports of hearing damaged related to the quality of the soundwaves and not so much the volume are now coming in...

i guess it makes sense that the sharp jagged corners where peaks are clipped would catch on and cut the ear more sharply than the soft rounded curves of a normal sound wave which might pass into the ear without friction. never thought of that before.

The whole loudness war is depressing.

So many examples of bad 'remastering'.

I really regret selling my original 1980s Cocteau Twins CDs so I could buy Robin Guthrie's disastrous 2003 remasters.

Glad to see the 1997 version of Raw Power mentioned, it's probably the worst-sounding CD I own
