where else in the city centra is it possible to get wool apart from Hickey's? Roches and Arnotts both no longer have a haberdashery department, for shame.

knitting is so 2004. crocheting is where it's at. all dexta's family and friends got crocheted scarves for christmas!

apparently clodagh gets it in charidee shops.
she gets wool there, too.

Woolen Mills beside Merchant's Arch do it? Dunno. I remember growing up there were always loads of wool shops. Zita and her family must have ate them all up or something.

Nope, they don't. :( They should change their name to Spangly Fabric Mills. About three years ago there was one on North Earl/Talbot Street? Not sure if it's still there.

Hickey's is the only place in the City Centre. There used to be a few other wool shops but it's not financially feasible to have specialist stores which only have small profit margins located in the city centre. All the major department stores used to sell yarn too, but it's the sort of thing you need trained staff to sell, so they found it wasn't worth the trouble. That's understandable, as until about three years ago, handknitting was looking like a dying art.
I won't be working in my folks wool shop in Walkinstown for much longer (a week or so), but I might work a few Saturdays every now and then, maybe set up some sort of Knitting Circle for the newbies, anyone interested in stopping by should PM me and we'll make a date. If you're interested in knitting, it's worth your while to stop in some time; it's the largest yarn suppliers in Europe. Toot toot.

Could someone knit me a balaclava? I have a big head, so I don't think I can get one off-the-shelf.

Cool! There was going to be a Ladyfest knitting circle at some stage, or maybe that was more of a general craft circle? Clodagh has the details anyways.

Used to get mine in Clery's, but that was years ago, when I taught myself to knit in case I was ever stranded in a remote location with nothing but sheep to eat and make clothes from. Not sure but they are a huge shop.

Failing that, what about Guiney's? They have everything.

Ah, the good old days. I knit a jumper once. From the most garish wool possible. Cos it was cheap.

Apparently, "Rita's" on St. Peter's Road in Walkinstown sells it, per someone here in work.

Hickey's in Henry Street is the best at the moment apparently. They don't sell it in the Green.

Clery's don't do it anymore by all accounts.

Well see the thing here is I could recommend a wool place in Edenmore (which is in Raheny...its poor relation..) called McAloons but who among ye girls is ever going to be in Edenmore? Besides me like. So it'd be a waste of time.

I wholly endorse this project. I can barely knit, but boy would I like to. Yis should see the magical wonderful scarf Zeelander madeded me. Wow. If I could do that I'd have so much fun.

Billy, I'll take on the balaclava thing. It may take a while, but I promise it will have magical powers.

thankin you all for your help. What bus does one get to walkinstown - the 77?

Right, new year's resolution is to start a Thumped knitting circle, which will extend to people from outside of Thumped also. Crocheters are more than welcome, cos I need someone on hand at all times to remind me how to crochet. As long as no-one wants to become a supremely skilled craftswoman and people just want to get started, get better, get creative, then it should be fun. I think maybe one evening a month in the Walkinstizzle shop, where there's plenty of wool, needles, books and stuff... oh and a kettle.
