I'd love to come over and knit but I suspect you live a little further than walking distance from my house...

really? where's carnival? i know there were a few attempts at getting knitting circles together before, but i never heard anything from them again. the dublinknitting yahoo group for example.
still, if anyone wants to do a 'thumped knitting group', get in touch.

aw. where do you live?

yeah Annie Tierney does it. Or definitely was doing it a few months ago. Maybe contact her and find out?

I would definitely be up for this. I've been planning to toddle into one of the Carnival sessions but haven't quite gotten around to it yet.

Just one thing though...I can't actually knit. Would that be a problem?

it's pretty simple to learn, i think, especially if you have someone there to help you out :)

i have a friend from college who'd definitely be interested in it as well. neither of us knows much more than the basics but we both love a knit and a yak. i'd just like to get, say, 4-6 people together to give the whole thing ago.

brian - yes and yes, and.. whatever they want to do really! i'd like to do it for the laugh, and also for the opportunity to get tips off other people.

I'm off the booze and fags from this Saturday. I predict millions of knitting, scrabble and pulling my own hair out.

no no no - knitting was big news in hollywood last year. It's becoem something of a new fad - i might get in trouble for suggesting that this has soemthing to do with the carnival session but i'm going to half-suggest it regardless.

By the way, I'm not saying that ye girls are knitting to be fashionable, especially not Zita what with her being heir to wool an all.

But my point for muffin is that knitting is actually kinda fashionable now.

The knitting revolution did kick off in the states a few years ago, as did a revival of quilting groups, sewing circles, scrap-bookers and lots of other crafts. Some people put it down to the atmosphere of fear in the States and people being scared to leave their homes for a while and finding safe pursuits to occupy their time. The resurrgence in knitting coinsided with fashion trends for exclusive handmade and one-off pieces and spread around the globe. It had a knock-on effect with yarn manafacturers and knitting publishers, who supported the knitting boom by introducing lots of cool, modern yarns and books aimed at young knitters.

And what's more, this year I shall by endeavouring to open a knitting boutique in Dublin's city centre and will keep you all informed! In the meantime, my folks have something of a wool emporium located in Walkinstown with more yarns than a normal person would ever need. Their site address is www.springwools.com but I don't think it's been updated since I used to work there, which was some time ago....

spinning your own yarn is apparently big in the states too. I have an ex who who just bought her own spindle. Hardcore.
