Jaysus cycling! (5 Viewers)

i remember Phil Gaimon finished second to Deignan in the Tour of The Gila and
vaguely that he was big on the US circuit but other than that i knew nothing else
about him.

i got on a bike on Friday for first time in two years at first i was almost moving
without pedaling and hadn't got a clue how to get gearing right.
then reality kicked in as i turned into the first significant wind there had been for
long time on an uphill part and i could hardly keep the thing moving.
then i got a flat and had to walk last mile home.

i hate fixing punctures so after my 6 odd miles excursion i'll 'opgave' and return to just walking.

i was looking for some Giro or Ras themed videos.
but when looking for the Cipollini 2003 prank video i found that his former wife
and mother in law were in court in early March saying how violent he was
and alleged that his daughters were scared of him

also wanted to post the mind blowing Aprica stage of the 1994 Giro but then remembered
Pantani (stage winner) and De Las Cuevas (started day in second place) are both dead....
back to reality.

Disappointing to hear that there's abuse allegations being made about him.

Cipo always gave off the aura of being a particularly strange guy, even by cycling standards. At the start I thought he was playing the villain Italian bad boy with the constant "I have sex/I'm a pornstar" bit in interviews. But he's still at it with that. His interactions with women are at best cringey.

When I noticed he sponsors a female cycling team my response was he likely thinks they're his harem.

Oh yeah? I don't know much about him, other than he's trying to move into a media career. I read his book, it was uneventful stuff. He didn't seem extremely terrible though.
to be fair, most books 'written' by cyclists about themselves are dull. 'hunger' by sean kelly is deathly boring.
tyler hamilton's was good, but partly because of the specific story he had. plus, he had a good writer.

the only one worth a damn was Thomas Dekker. Absolute drivel writing style, but what a story. Zero is the amount of fucks he gives.

Cipollini faces hearing in alleged assault on ex-wife | Cyclingnews.com
Mario Cipollini 'chased ex-wife with gun' court hears - Cycling Weekly

Cipollini also had two heart operations recently.

but now when i put it all together:
- I once remember Cipo spraying champagne over the podium girls at the Giro.
- he was famously kicked off the Vuelta for punching Francisco Cerezo in 2000
causing a bad cut under his eye.
- and the prank video from 2003 ends with him punching the guys who pretended
to steal and smash up his Worlds Champs winning bike.

this evening i was involved in the most bad tempered cycling related exchange i've had in a year or two, and weirdly, i was the pedestrian. on the santry road, a chap had a bike upside down and was a bit banged up - from what little i saw it may have been his RD going into his spokes. but as i was talking to him (i'd crossed the road to let him know duff cycles was open in omni, before i'd spotted he was bleeding), i was standing in the cycle lane because there were other peds about, and several seconds after i came to a halt, another cyclist came barrelling straight at me at speed, jammed on at the last second, and started fucking and blinding at me for being in the cycle lane.

and the weird part - he was a friend of the injured cyclist, who immediately started calling at him to calm down, that i'd come over to help, but he swung around to have another go at giving out to me. so i left.

was just very strange, i've never had that situation where someone would cycle directly at me to physically intimidate me before.

Somebody needs to tell Pete to stay out of the cycling thread.

He's out of his depth. He appears not to fully understand the extent to which we are all right. At all times. Simultaneously.

2020 Giro d'Italia should have finished today.....

shortly after 1987 winner Stephane Roche retired he was a victim of a French TV prank (subtitled).

this is last few minutes of stage so you don't see much of Martin as
Visentini, Saronni and LeMond etc are slugging it out behind.
but there are longer but worse quality clips of this on youtube.

i had a few more clips i was going to post but the internet here is
desperate and youtube has stopped working....

I do that all the time

I mean if you'rein the bike lane and you shouldn't be, you're getting buzzed

People walking in the bike lane? That's a buzzing.
People stand on the kerb with their phones held out onto the bike lane, you can bet that's a buzzing.

People shouting to their friends on the other side of the bike lane, believe it or not, that's a buzzing.

You guys still buzz people? I used to, in my first couple of years of city cycling, when I thought I was the dogs bollocks. Then I got a bit older and wiser and more conflict averse. I can't think of the last time I even witnessed a buzzing, and this city is FULL of people who've been on the bike for six months and think they're The Cyclists. You just wouldn't get away with it.

Don't be buzzing people lads, it's ungracious.

Cycling your bike directly at a pedestrian in order to make your point makes you a cock.

This may not be what you mean by buzzing someone. But peds are higher in priority than cyclists.
