Jaysus cycling! (2 Viewers)

he's one fit bastard though. he arrived in dublin last year, and on his first go up howth head from the village knocked 41s off the previous KOM on strava (albeit with a perfect wind).

Lol. Yeah. Those pro lads are on a completely different level.

He he was payed to ride a bicycle. On a world tour team... which, yeah.

I've ridden with bottom tier pro guys here and there, or even pro MTBers who are just training on the road. It's piss taking. It's like you going for a ride with your 9 year old nephew. Big Sprinter types would be sitting alongside you on climbs, breathing through their nose, while you're *pinned*. They weren't just leagues better than you on the way up hills either, they'd drop me off their wheels on descents too. Effortless...corner, corner, 5m gap, gone.

for the record, he managed a 4:21 up it on a single effort (albeit with a perfect north westerly).
in 34 attempts, i have managed a best of 7:03.

Jesus.

He's probably only a couple of percent off the current EF guys or whatever. His retirement from pro cycling seems to have mainly freed him up to ride his bike more.

I don't suppose they're going to have the tour running through Ireland again any time soon. Didn't work out optimally last time.

on the same day he did that, i nabbed one of the two KOMs i still hold, on an inconsequential laneway in north county dublin. i deliberately hammered it there precisely because of the strong wind.

nah, it had been planned to bring it back quite a bit scaled back and i think amateur only. i don't think they'd sourced a new major sponsor, so it was never going to be an extravagant affair.

yeah, simon lloyd, i'd heard him mention it in one of their videos a couple of years ago.
some of the stuff GCN has been doing in lockdown is good; conor dunne's brother in law is emerging as a star. e.g.

I'd seen him alright.

I didn't realise he was riding one of those Canyon bikes with the mental handlebars.

I'm fairly sure those handlebars can fuck off. This is a well thought out, considered opinion I've arrived upon having never used them.

the cynic in me likes to think that was a diktat from the marketing department to the techie team - 'make something that differentiates us cos our bikes look the same as everyone elses'.

Marketing: Have you considered making our bikes look a bit shit?

Engineering: How shit are we talking here?

Marketing: Oh, nothing too crazy. For now. Something... I dunno, that might only make you feel a bit uneasy at first. Until you see it, and realise what exactly is making you feel uneasy, and realise that it looks shit.

Engineering: Sound. So not horrible looking wobbly Pinerello forks shit. Just a bit shit. What about in a few years when we discontinue that component, and people need to replace it.

Marketing: You just leave the marketing up to us, ok?

Oh shit. I didn't even know The Ras was back.

Were there any nice teams in the lineup? Does An Post still have that team going with Sean Kelly?

There is a small continental irish Pro team EvoPro in their second season though I think they only got 1 days racing this year. A few irish guys but a really good Dutch rider wippert. He was on the ef team for a few seasons. The team had some good results last season

The Ras mumhan is looking for new organisers too

i know shag all about phil gaimon that isn't superficial, but this was interesting (and it's not really about cycling)
