The Cookie Crew were on BBC 2 TV programme about 80's pop music (that covered a lot of ground in an hour) on Friday night. Despite how young they looked they were well into their 20's in this video.
that's Fab Five Freddie doing a fake English accent at the start.

speaking of Londoners rapping NY stylee, here's Latifah in her heyday -

Monie later worked in radio in the US and sounds totally NY on air but a lot more London when talking to the UK media.

Prompted by a local weather notification on some app that installed itself on my taskbar that read "It's raining now".

I had no time for this AOR type stuff (as I considered it) back in the day, but now that I am old I can appreciate it

I always liked the music on this. Mostly performed by Chic.
THe groove. The keyboard touches & that cool arpeggiated part during the chorus.

that doc on 80's pop was unremarkable enough to begin with but then he managed to cram in a lot genres as it progressed e.g. The Fall.
great Nile is still with us after overcoming cancer twice.
actually The Fall covered Lost In Music but that was in the 90's.

#ihavejustdiscovered

In the early 80s there was a very 80s band called "Hey! Elastica"

Material Girl is the only Madonna song I ever heard that I like.
the photo of her in the above link reminds me that my favourite thing about her is how much hair she had on her arms in her early days. sad to praise someone for not shaving her arms but it seems to have become normal over the years:cry:.

can anyone help me with a song I haven't heard since about 1984/85 -
It was called 'Play To Win' , I think. no memory of the band's name.

A guy sang the verses and a woman with a high pitched voice sang the chorus: ''Play to win aye-aye-aye''.
the song got plenty of airplay on RTE Radio 2 and the video was shown on kids TV (Anything Goes etc a few times). one of the last times I heard it a guy on Radio 2 said it had flopped.
I think RTE pushed the record a lot because someone from a previous Irish successful band was involved(???)
anyway I haven't heard the song in the last 35 years. I was about 9 at the time and liked the tune.
any of this ring any bells???
