Bought this album secondhand recently. Damn, there are some unbelievable songs on it.
it's like you typed 'bonnie tyler', 'power ballad' and 'have you ever seen the rain' into an early revision of an AI.

it was an often asked question in cycling circles ''Who did the New Order sounding theme for Channel 4's Tour de France coverage?''
PETE SHELLEY - Tour de France Theme (1984)
this is from his 80's solo era and was used from 1984 to the early 2000's or so. It would be as familiar to cycling fans as Philo's 'Yellow Pearl' would to the early 80's kids. he was commissioned to compose this and I don't know if it's ever been released on hard format but not as far as I know.
rather than use KRAFTWERK's 1983 tune. French TV channel A2 commissioned their own tune.
classic 80's Euro synth pop (1985)
pity they didn't leave the original intro graphics intact.
this is not the whole thing - it's missing the first few seconds (from memory) and then after it segues into a piano break while they showed you that day's route. I've also hear other similar sounding music used from the years leading up this. I heard this in 1988 and 89 when RTE showed the race live for the first time, so funnily enough someone in co. Waterford posted this

Yeah, Animal Nightlife, I don't know much about them but they were on Innervision which suggests they came from that whole soul-club london scene that Wham emerged from.
