ISPs providing addresses of p2p users to the IRMA? (2 Viewers)

can't imagine this ending well

ACS:Law, the firm of solicitors being investigated by authorities over thousands of threatening letters to alleged unlawful filesharers, was attacked by net activists linked to 4chan overnight.

The firm's website was brought back online at about 10.45am, following a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) strike.

It follows similar action against music and film industry websites over the weekend under the auspices of "Operation: Payback Is A Bitch", coordinated over IRC by members of 4chan, the anarchic message board.

Andrew Crossley, the head of ACS:Law, told The Register the attack was "typical rubbish from pirates".

"Big whoop," he added.

"It was only down for a few hours. I have far more concern over the fact of my train turning up 10 minutes late or having to queue for a coffee than them wasting my time with this sort of rubbish."

Hah that's funny.

I suspect is a pisstake though - how would they have real names
and there is too much similarity in the titles downloaded, given the vast sea of downloadable porn I doubt between the 40 odd people listed in the postcode I searched for there would be so much overlap.

I wonder is it just a dump of the electoral register with some random porn titles added?

ISPs gave them subscribers' details (names & addresses to go with specific IP addresses)

It returns results within about a 3 mile radius of the postcode entered. That's a lot of people. Plus they're only acting on behalf of one german copyright holder.

So sjy handed out names without telling their subscribers . Jaysus, I'd be livid.

Yeah makes sense.

I should have read the BBC article first I guess.

EMI, Universal Sony, Warner Music Versus UPC in the High Court
11th October 2010
*
Speaking after the Judgement today in the High Court in the case of EMI, Universal, Sony, Warner versus UPC, Mr Willie Kavanagh, Chairman of IRMA said “We are extremely disappointed that the* High Court today has effectively determined that the Irish State has* failed to protect the constitutional rights of copyright holders , by failing to implement EU Copyright directives correctly”.*
*
Dick Doyle, Director General of IRMA added “The High Court has acknowledged that Irish artists, composers and recording companies are sustaining huge losses and internet providers are profiting from the wholesale theft of music.
*
The Judge made it very clear that an injunction would be morally justified*but that the Irish legislature had failed in its obligation*to confer on the courts the right to grant such injunctions unlike other EU states.
*
We will now look to the Irish Government to fully vindicate the constitutional rights of Copyright holders and we reserve the right to seek compensation for the past and continuing losses from the State”.

Wait, didn't most other EU states find against the likes of EMI anyway? and not in a 'it's not my fault, it's just the rules' way?

Invoking Godwin's law i'm going to call this a horrible case of the Nuremberg defence
