Ireland (3 Viewers)

I told a mate that Irish people have a habit of making fun of anyone who dresses funny. There's a whole reddit thing about it. And me living where I live there is no shortage of material.
But apparently her other Irish friends told her no, that's not a thing at all. Maybe that's because they're all weird looking hipsters, or maybe I'm just an asshole. There's another reddit about that actually.

But it is definitely a thing, isn't it???

She also tried to get me to explain what "grand" means. She was once dumped by an Irish someone who started the dumping with "Listen, I think you're grand..."
I ask "Did they actually say 'I think you're grand, but' with a long pause after?"
Yes she did actually, why?
Ouch, harsh.

Yes, it definitely is.

there's a big long twitter thread which seems to have gone virally globally, and it was started by someone irish and half the stories in it were of irish people getting stick for their fashion choices.

That's exactly the one I mean.

There's a clickbait listicle which I could link to, but I won't. You may Google if you wish. It is very funny though.

Me and Mrs. egg_ were in The Hut in Phibsboro back in the 90s sometime and when a young woman walked in clad entirely in yellow we overheard one of her friends saying "Jaysis, she looks like a fucking banana". It's been a catchphrase in our household ever since

My parents like to tell a story of something I said when I was a kid and a cousin of mine walked in glad in yellow.

"Cheep cheep, who's a pwetty boy then?"

I had long blonde hair in the late 90's, and was even skinnier.

I could barely walk down the street without a Hansen ('uum bop') slag. (usually mixed in with 'hippie, faggit, werido, posho etc..)
