using a presonus firepod to do a bit of recording in a room at
the moment and i keep getting a very noticeable distortion
when i up the gains.

i'm guessing this is a grounding issue or something, any
suggestions? i've tried the same setup in different rooms
and don't hear it. any advice on where i should or should not
position myself in the room? things to avoid?

stupid buzzing sound

downstairs sockets circuit in my gaff aren't earthed properly according to an amateur sparks we had round and we have audible buzzing and interference issues with the TV on occasions (the 60 hz cycle like when you see computer monitors on a tv programme)-it's very annoying. If you find a solution not involving a costly electrician's call out please let me know.

it's cool tony, don't worry about it - was recording in the same room
again earlier - the buzzing / interference sound was gone today

i did move the laptop a few feet away from where it previously was

weird

i had bother in an old gaff with 'ghosts' coming through my shit and drones.
i had it excorcised, its tops now.

no really after recrding the sounds at high gain levels and putting loads of filters on them i relaised it was the fucking cb taxi radio system that serves the town, the drones were the toyato diesel engines and the ghosts were all call outs. i just live with it these days.
