The IFI Documentary Festival starts this Wednesday, September 27th, bringing the best in new Irish and international documentary filmmaking to Dublin.

The festival kicks off with the Irish Premiere of Nothingwood. This hilarious new documentary was a huge hit at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and tells the incredible story of director and producer Salim Shaheen as he makes his 110th no budget action film. Dubbed the Afghan Ed Wood, he creates films with little or no resources, but his energy remains infectious even as the production heads into Taliban-controlled territory. The screening will be followed by a wine reception.

The festival will close this Sunday with the World Premiere of Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect, an intimate portrait of the acclaimed Irish-American architect, still working at the age of 95.

In between you'll find observational docs set in the Congo (Makala), an incendiary look at the Ferguson riots in the US (Whose Streets?), and a startling glimpse into the world's busiest maternity ward (Motherland).

In total, we'll be packing in 16 feature films (with 8 premieres) and our ever popular shorts programme, as well as a sterling lineup of guests from around the world.
