Sounds like he is singing over the original song rather than a cover. (Early mashup maybe?)

I believe the guitar player from Count Five was originally from Dublin.

That's right, he was the singer, Sean Byrne
Dead now.

I believe the guitar player from Count Five was originally from Dublin.
Sean Byrne (also known as John) was from Drimnagh he moved out to San Jose CA in 1965. where he met the COUNT FIVE guys nearly straight away. he wrote, sang and played rhythm guitar on Psychotic Reaction,
all within a short time of arriving in the US.

Daragh O'Halloran's book Green Beat has a chapter on Sean Byrne and THE COUNT FIVE.
also covered in the book is one of the BEAU BRUMMELS who was from Clonmel!

Vigrass and Osborne, the performers of the original jingle, added lyrics to the song and recorded it for inclusion on their 1972 album Queues. Their interpretation was also released as a single and gained moderate commercial success in Japan, selling more than 100,000 copies and becoming a top-20 hit on the country's record chart.

MADNESS!

It just shows you.. a good tune is a good tune is a good tune...keep whacking them out in one shape or another until its a hit.

Watching old episodes of Bergerac on my lunch break and this just came on..

I have never heard it until now and I assumed it was a cover, but no, The Bluebells were the ones who did the cover

I thought Smokie wrote it but I'm so young that all of versions were before my time so how would I know.

I always thought it was The Searchers original

Jackie DeShannon again

I didn't give it much thought but am not surprised the Lennox/Green version was a cover
