How much will you spend between today and January 1st? (1 Viewer)

as far as I know any transactions on your laser card over xmas week aren't taken from your account til after the new year. Though, I could be wrong.

I have a 3.5K credit card bill to clear by the 27th and need to start doing some xmas shopping. I'm thinking some skillful negotiation with intended recipients might be a better bet.

I need to change my poxy car in january too.

Those money tree beans I bought on grafton st last week better bloody work

They do indeed, I once saw someone order brandies everytime others were buying and then when they were buying had a pint of tap water.it was weird.

Expensive brandies or ones that cost less than the price of a pint? I never have a problem with someone buying themselves soft drinks, or indeed drinking water on their round. If they reciprocate all the drinks they've been bought what is the problem? Do you think that they should drink water on other people's rounds and subsidise the heavier drinkers?

Ok, if they're ordering champagne or something I understand.

Recently I've been trying to limit the amount I drink, so when I go out I drink water every second drink at least. If I order water on a friend's round then they don't let me buy them a drink, which leaves me out of the rounds entirely, except that they usually get me water on their round.

Surely someone skipping out just before their round is more of a problem/issue.

I still predict I will spend at least 700 euro on socialising, travel and gifts between now and New Year's Eve. Any advice on how to cut back on that without looking like a scrooge???

Is that including the wedding? If so you're doing pretty well.

we spent 200 quid on food the other night, and I can see another big shop having to be done before christmas as chances are we'll eat everything by Friday.

Presents are going to cost over 500. This is mostly buying small presents for kids - there's just so many of them

We're going away for a couple of days in the van, which seems like it won't cost much but we'll have to buy diesel and food so that'll rack anther couple of hundred up.

And I lways feel very flathuilach (sp) over the season, so I buy lots of random tat and flowers any time I go to the shop.

It'll end up being a shitload of money.

My family is all over the place (states apart) so Christmas isn't an issue. We won't be getting together an no presents are expected. We are all above the age where Christmas is exciting so it is one less hassle. The act of actually being in the same room usually means more these days. We only buy for the kids and I only have one nephew young enough to send something home too.

I am spending Christmas here with a family and was put in a draw for names. So aside from a few bits and bobs for close friends, I only really have one big present buy and I already did it. Bottles of cheap wine, a couple nights in Westport, and Christmas will be rather inexpensive.

I hate the holiday anyway. Only thing worse is New Years Eve. Bring on January...although I do enjoy all the time off I get over here....so it can come slowly and I will just cover my ears and eyes.

theres a betamax format gig on this year on NYs eve though.

so thats all about to change .|..|

Dublin. City Centre. NYE. I think I would rather eat broken glass. The amount of puking fisticuffs out in about and people standing too close/bumping into me after eating weeks of mum's brussles spouts. Not to mention, an over crowded sticky venue that probably cost 50+ Euro to get into sounds like pure hell on earth. Plus I have a flight at 7am on the 1st. I imagine getting a taxi might be a bit of a problem.

Put the gig details after that and send it the Betamax lads, they need a blurb for the newspapers.

Ha! I love Georgie but NYE blows. I have yet to have a fun one that was out on the town.
I think the best NYE I ever had was 1999/2000, me and John-out-of-Stoat and our wives dancin to the radio in his sitting room

edit: Come to think of it, we could do that this year again, couldn't we? I'll give him a call ...

Jesus I didn't realise what a bunch of tightwads you all are. Its going to be a barrel of laughs tomorrow night in sin e.

Probably, I don't know what day today is, I keep going to the pub to scab brandy off people.

OH MY GOD I JUST HAD TWO DRINKS IN A ROW WITH NO GLASS OF WATER IN BETWEEN, WHAT WAS I THINKING, CHRISTMAS IS CANCELLED!!!

why don't you just not care, booze it up for a week and a bit, and then just eat plain pasta ('pasta solo!') and not leave the house for the entire month of January like normal people do?
