Maybe mooses post where the only case in which the word 'strat' is used is when it is an actual fender. Also the post where I say all guitars are called strats, I didn't write that, moose did.

You said like the word hoover which has come into use as a generic term for all vacuum cleaners not a specific type of vacuum cleaner so that doesn't work. Of course you can shorten strat copy to just strat if you want but that still doesn't make the Hagstrom there a strat.

That Thomann ST types is a load of bollox (if you excuse my french) by that reckoning any double cutaway guitar is a strat type. PRS with two humbuckers has nothing to with a strat imo yet it's in there for some reason.

I do love when people pick up flippant remarks and make a deal out of them. :D

Just to show off my new guitar really...

First off here's what I've been using as ax number 1 for ages. Serial number says it's from 2000. One of the 60s reissues. Loudest thing. G string never likes staying in tune, but ive recently changed the way I restring and it has improved. Recently got it set up and had 15 years of gunk cleaned off the fretboard so it is like a new guitar again.

Amp is a Laney VC30 that I've gotten a lend off. Don't know exactly what year it was made, relatively new, but it's got made in the UK on the back. Nice crisp sound from it.

And my new guitar I bought a few weeks ago. I've wanted a telecaster for years and I wanted a brand new guitar since nearly everything I own is second hand. My budget stretched to the new American Specials or the Japanese 62 reissues. Thought I was going for the AS after reading nothing but good things about them, but I fell in love with the finish on the 62 and got it. Love it, has a slight buzz to take care of and Im only beginning to learn about the difference in single coil pickups and humbuckers now. But, Ive had the chance to turn it up loud and it sounds like a tele.

Rig Rundown! Guitar corner has been growing...

Here's my tokai lss. I got it off a sound aul lad from mullingar. It's based off the les paul special 50s specs so the neck is a bit chunky. 2004, made in japan. has a 'SEB' body meaning the wood in the middle is perpendicular to the front and back. Tokai say it is to improve sustain, but I dunno, may just have been a way to use up their mahogany cuts. I don't mind, it looks sweet and that's mainly what I am after. I got it set up for 11s. Needs a wound G which I was a bit gutted about at first, but the lad from Ghost plays with one so now I think they are cool.

Also, I got my studio dot back from the guitar guy. The caretaker in our apartment block was going to chuck this out but he knew I was in to guitars and gave to me instead. I left it in with Benny Cryan in the guitar repair center on abbey street for a set up and to get some frets replaced. He has done great work. Took a while, but he is the nicest guy and I love this guitar, it is so easy to play now. No fret markings on the board mean you can get a bit lost, but that's down to it being a cheaper 'studio' model. Has a few dings, had been given some of the wrong love, but now it is home. Also 2004, made in Korea. Nice.

Can ignore the SG/EB3 bass and imagine an Aria SB500 in it's place.
Then we have 77 Jazz Bass with flats, 00 Jazz bass with heavy strings down to C# Standard, Kramer 450B, 97 Gibson SG, Yamaha AEX520 and 70s Shaftesbury SG.

Extremely happy with my lot now. Bit of cab work to do and then it's on to getting all my amps in working order.

@chris d thats a lovely collection there. The Epi looks great. And I had a '61 SG. Loved it, especially the pickups, but I stuck a bigsby by on it and it didn't really work. The body was too thin for the pressure required for the Bigsby to do what I wanted it to do. Sg + Vibrola looks soooo much better too.

Since my last update I've added these two.

Custom Shop '66 Strat. I'd played it in Jimis over a few months so I had time to really know I wanted it. Had a few Strats down the years, some great ones and one total dog, but I really love this guitar. The neck, the colour, the pickups. All great! Thats the start taken care of.

I don't quite know what you'd call it, maybe a bitsa Jazzmaster? It's got a '65 body but all the electrics have been changed, it has a Mastery bridge, the rhythm circuit has been removed in Sonic Youth styleee, and the neck is not original but is a period correct Fender licensed replacement which is bound and chunky as feck. Played it for 2 mins one day in Some Neck, put money down and went home and sold a load of stuff. I actually sold more then I needed too, and it was all amps and pedals I wasn't using so I ended up with a bit of cash and this! Winner!!

Also put a Bigsby on the Casino the other week. This is great now, though I've put a fair bit into replacing all the shit bits.

The JCM800 is covered in plastic to keep the dust off it.

Aw lads. Class. Look at that jazz, and a green strat with a pearl pickguard? Yes.

The SG has 57 classics in it, which I have no doubt you already knew @mark , it is such a loud guitar. I love the look of the Vibrola on it, great for feedback. Benny was recommending DiMarzio Air Classics for the epi, which I am now saving up for. No doubt I will be asking for your help when it comes to buying new pots and things.

I totally want a strat now. What is that red pedal @prefuse ?

@chris d My only experience with normal humbuckers prior using the 57 Classics was a Gibson The Paul I had, which had T-top humbuckers in it. Sounded fantastic distorted, but dull as hell clean. Have you A/B'd your with Antos? I be surprised if yours weren't a tad quieter and a bit less mid rangey then the pups in Antos standard. 57 Classics sound great clean.

We're not organised enough for that kind of stuff. Plus I keep bringing different guitars and pedals to our jams #useful. A's SG sounds so great through the marshall though, which it was just made for.

I was watching Kryz Reid's rig rundown on youtube a couple of weeks ago. He was showing off his The Paul! £400 back in the day. I had never even heard of them, they look very cool.

I got the Hondo 935 deluxe back recently. Its a wonderful thing. all shows are between that and the Aria Pro magna 55 which just asks to be played. Its a good time. The baby (my strat copy) is off the road till I deal with tuning issues. its in the realm of handing it to people and they ask 'seriously, how much was this?'

It's a 1993 special edition US strat. I love it, just wish it was a different colour. I like the classic tobacco burst.

The red pedal is an xotic BB pre amp. It's an overdrive / clean boost pedal.

Put a tonepros adjustable wraparound bridge on that tokai, back to a plain G string now. Couple of the saddles can be a bit wobbly. Might superglue them.

Sold my little Martin LX1E a few months ago to fund some pedals. Saw this in the shop.

After a few sleepless nights and a month of saving I went back for a closer look. Really it is a very nice guitar. Exactly the kind of aesthetics I like in an acoustic.

Solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides. Warm tone and it is a breeze to play. Honestly comparable to the '57 Gibson J50 Jimi's have. Has a buzz on the high E on the 15th fret if you dig in, but I shouldn't be messing up around there, and I can live with it since the action is ridiculously low.

Made in China in 2009. Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500M Natural finish. A steal.

Got this on the cheap a while back as an introduction to strats. Needed a big clean up and I learned how to set up a floating bridge because of it. Strats are class. A load of feedback and a whammy is all you need to be a cut price Yo La Tengo.
