With BT in the UK you can dial 141 to hide your number from the person you're calling.

    Is there an Eircom equivalent?
    Thanks.

I have a land line but oddly, I don't even know the number. I suppose I should figure this out some time. Do phone books still exist for other than businesses?

      jah.
i foolishly got our number listed here when i was setting up our phone with BT.
now 2 or 3 times a week we get a call (only when im in bed of course and flatmate is gone to work) and its some recorded mesage telling us about their great offers to reduce our outgoing repayments etc..... bastards.
and how do they know im so broke!!?

      I have a further question:

Will the caller ID be hidden if you call a UK phone from an Irish phone??

Hiding your number can be useful if you're calling business numbers, if you don't want them to have your information. It helps to protect you from the kind of BS phone calls Ernesto was talking about.

      Nothing creepy Pantone.

All the same, it is quite an urgent matter and I'd appreciate an answer to my "does it work if you're calling the mainland UK" question.
      Thanks
