  • Hefty Horse will be hosting their Christmas gig in the fantastic Grand Social.

As usual all profits will go to charity and we have gone for Aware this time around. Aware offer support for people with depression, bipolar disorder, postnatal depression or suicidal thoughts.

The gig will be 5euro on the door and we will have a raffle on the night as well as arts and crafts and goodies for sale, with all proceeds going to Aware,

    School Tour:
"School Tour makes stratospheric drone and pulse music, layering clouds of sepulchral reverb over trance-inducing Ominchord oscillations, decaying super-8 memories and loops of ghosts and whispering chainsaws. He is also a member of Children Under Hoof and Patrick Kelleher’s live band." - Astonishing Sod-Ape

I am most humbled to be included into Ragged Words's 10 Acts for 2010

"There may be only one (excellent) song, one (excellent) remix and one (excellent) live YouTube clip to go on here, but hypnotic drone music from the hills of Donegal? C'mon! How could we not include School Tour? Truth is that 'Cat Pur', the aforementioned stand-alone tune, is deceptively simple and staggeringly great. Echoing the murky sounds of similarly doom-laden fellow countrymen Legion Of Two and spooky electronicist Hunter-Gatherer, the song is, until a terrifying breakdown at the end, just one big, evil loop slowly building over the course of five minutes. But Christ, what a loop. Go be his 112th MySpace friend." - Ragged Words

"Weird, wonderful and space-age electronica from the wilds of Donegal to send shivers down your spine. "Skating With Another" is music for trekking along icy plateaux and frozen hills in the dead of winter." - The Irish Times

"Slow blossoming evocative bliss trips" - Upset The Rhythm

"... General Dublin grand vizier of musical disorientation" - Totally Dublin

    Ginnels:
Like your dickhead neighbour drowning out your Byrds and Feelies records with his poorly recorded noise 'jams' with his stoned mates, except actually good. Ginnels' self titled debut album was released online in Feburary 2011 and has garnered critical acclaim and praise ever since.

A free single 'Great Fall' was put out a few months later and, following an appearance on the Popical Island #2 compilation in June, a new mini album is due out in late summer.

Ginnels is Mark Chester (Grand Pocket Orchestra, No Monster Club), with live friends Paddy Hanna, Bobby Aherne, Roy Duffy and Ruan Van Vliet.

    Owensie:
Owensie is Michael Owens. He has been a well known face on the Irish music scene for a number of years having played with bands such as Puget Sound, Terrordactyl and Domhnach Dubh. As Owensie, he has being playing a mellow acoustic brand of music which is a significant departure from some of his previous punk-rock endeavours.

Michael had been playing with Puget Sound until about 2006. After this, he performed with Terrordactyl along with members of Adebisi Shank. However, around this time, he started exploring different music genres. In 2010, he made a 5-track demo EP available as a free download. This gave listeners a first glimpse of what was to come. February of the following year saw the release of 'Aliens', his debut solo album. The 9-track long player was issued on Out On A Limb Records. Tracks included 'Cat And Mouse', 'Cruel Time' and 'Subtle Connections'.

Michael also finds time to play guitar with Realistic Train along with Tob Swift [Mongolia] and Ken Sweeney [Easpa Measa].

Aliens is a collection of nine exquisitely crafted compositions that marry classical guitar intricacies with a contemporary folk delivery from the talented Dublin songwriter, a one-time member of Puget Sound & Terrordactyl, and currently guitarist with rock outfit Realistic Train. Recorded by James Eager (Jogging, Enemies, etc) at the Hive Studios, Owensie was joined by Andy Mooney (percussion), Mick Roe (drums), Julia Mahon (piano, piano and string arrangements) , Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh (viola) and Paddy Dexter (cello).
"Emerges as a startling new talent with this wonderfully assured debut", 4/5, Irish Independent
"A peaceful album to fall asleep to, and what's more, an exciting one to make up with", 4/5 Hot Press
"It’s the clever, slow-paced reps and carefully layered undertones that leap to the fore", 4/5, State.ie
"A quietly evocative and memorable record that deserves to be heard - and adored", 4/5, Sunday Business Post
"An album of thoughtful and intelligent acoustic music", 80%, Wearenoise.com
    "Leaves a warm soft feeling", 4/5, Heinekenmusic.ie
"More than deserves your attention, it’s a triumph", 8/10, Drop-d.ie
"These 'Aliens' deserve to be welcomed into your home", 4/5, RTE.IE
