yep venue waiving rentals for both our benefits on Feb 14 & 17 as well the other events with Glen Hansard, Ham Sandwich etc

an excellent idea. it might happen too. when corpo did a gig in aid of aware in late 2008, whelans waved the venue rental fee. decent.

Leagues - which charity is the gig being associated with? I wouldn't mind letting people know when I'm doing my mailout thingy.

Also, will we plan for half an hour set or shorter/longer?

This should really have been a PM but we have no secrets do we?

Press release 27th January 2010

Concern’s Haiti Emergency Relief Programme to Reach Over 150,000 people

Agency’s new 6-month Emergency Recovery and Rehabilitation Programme will engage with long-established local partners in Haiti for maximum speed and effectiveness.

Concern Worldwide today announced the beginning of a 6-month Emergency Recovery and Rehabilitation Programme targeting 150,000 people affected by the Haiti earthquake.

Cognisant not just of the urgent needs of the local population but also medium and long-term requirements, the start for the new 6-month programme is seen as vital to cope with the demands of the imminent rainy season and an array of evolving needs.

“Speed and effectiveness are paramount, and our local partners and relationships with local government will be vital to success,” says Concern’s Regional Director, Brid Kennedy, who has just returned to Dublin from Haiti.

Concern has been in Haiti since 1994, working with 16 local partner organisations, and this linkage of expertise with local knowledge and experience is seen as key to the successful roll-out of the new programme.

Ms Kennedy added: “We must also look to the medium and longer-term as part of a coherent strategy that will encompass an eventual ‘Big Picture’ plan for Haiti’s future. Before that, however, we are already putting this 6-month programme into effect to reach to try and prevent a bad situation
becoming much worse with the onset of the rainy season. The logistics element in delivering this six- month plan is mammoth.”

The agency, which is continuing the rapid response work it started in the days immediately after the earthquake, has identified 7 key areas on which it will focus over the coming months:

Shelter and non-food items to 30,000 people. Access to clean water and sanitation for 50,000 people with a capacity of 135,000 litres per day.
The prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition from specialised locations targeting 2,500 children under one-year of age and almost 2,000 under-5s. Cash transfers to facilitate recovery to 10,000 women and cash-for-work programmes reaching 10,000 men.
Psycho-social support to those affected by the consequences of the quake, including trauma and bereavement counselling, and conflict management, an area in which Concern had been engaged with local partners for some time in Haiti.
Primary education to 10,000 children. Food distribution, working with World Food Programme, targeting 72,000 people.
