The low E,A & D strings are the same on his guitar as on a standard 6-string but the higher 3 strings (G-B-E) are doubled up, like all the strings on a 12-string guitar are.

It means that when he's playing low heavy riffs, there's no difference.
But when he's playing solos, the sound is fuller & has a natural chorus effect.

It's a fucking great idea.
