herself has a les paul special, which is probably at least ten years old, and while i was reading the crimson guitars diary, i was reading about the need to oil the fretboard. anywhere in dublin sell the oils you'd need?

also, is there an easy way of telling how old a gibson is? the laquer on the LP is thick enough to have made most of the numbers on the serial illegible...
 
Most good guitar shops will have oil. I'd recommend some neck on Aungier street or guitar centre on Exchequer, both places I'd trust to give you the right stuff and advise you properly. Is it Rosewood or Maple board? Maple doesn't need oiling, actually I'd never oiled any of my Rosewood necks either.

As for dating; if you open it up there should be a number/code on the back of the pots. That'll give you a rough date if you can't read the serial number. Post up the code and I'll find it if you can't. And sure you may as well post a picture of the guitar too. :)
