gonna lean out of the bunker here.... (1 Viewer)

The kid has a point guys... seriously.

anonymous koward (16 Apr, 2002 08:22 p.m.):

but here's the problem, with the exception of one or two people, every one on this board comes across as a complete wanker.

[4]with the exception of pete[/4], whose opinions i regularly read on the ireland offline board, herv, and stuart little, who was [3]funny[/3], the rest of you seem to be the type of people that make me avoid gigs connected to this board and turn me off bands that are mentioned here...

Well, I think mr coward does have apoint, but a weak one. I agree that this place can seem cliquey at first, but it really is just because some visitors have alot more time to talk shite... I don't agree there are many wankers here.....

A new "just talkin here" section is a great idea...separating the useful forum from the more relaxed, shoot the breeze forum...

*cough*

ah come on. now thats just pushing it. there was no "blah blah blah" in the origional post. people are just fucking taking liberties around here now.

i mean you only have to look at other boards to see the bad rep this place has. for a public forum it's one of the most clicky ignornant place on the web, where no-one new is welcomed, unless they have the persistence to keep posting until they gain a good rep.

Actually in all seriousness if anyone has examples of this I'd like to see them. Just out of curiosity, like.

I'm not even going to attempt to defend some of the crap that gets posted here, but in all fairness I really don't think there's a 'clique' as such - people who actually socialise together will naturally converse more with each other, that's just the way it is.

But I don't know of any actual overt exclusion has ever happened. Or has it? I mean, just take a look at the number of accounts registered and compare it to the number of people who actually post.....

Maybe a "board at work" board is what's called for. Or maybe the 'general' board could be it, with other specific ones (like Home Recording) set up?

Anyone?

pete

[1]ps don't mention the ireland offline board - i mean it's just not very cool, is it?[/1]

hey i think we're very welcoming, the way we welcomed that (potentially very pretty) girl over on that "yo" post proves it. just ask princess how nice we are... go on!

it couldn't hurt to have a seperate board. i'd be all for that.

Pete, I think you should leave things as they are... Why let one opinion change how you do things...?
Fuck the begrudger... If he dont like it he can fuck off back to canada...

Yes,i definitely think this is the way to go.I can understand peoples frustration, but they should also try to understand the predicament of the chronic poster.

Lets face it,only the people who post regularly can keep up with the jokes and bullshit.
So do it pete, set up another thread, take the bull by the balls etc..

Nah... takes away all the spontinayity (sic)...
Oh, I've somthing funney to say but I cant say it here this is the serious thread... thats shite... Leave the sleeping dog lie...

there are plenty of posts that start off ordered, discussing things of revevance and then just descend into banality, (courtesy of myself generally) and vice versa. maybe on second thoughts a seperate board wouldn't be the best idea as i guess, where would you draw the line? if an argument got interesting there might be a call to swap it over to the main board, and that'd become confusing for all.

no, ok, i've made up my mind now. seperate board = bad.

[1]i'm really bad at arguing...[/1]

I believe Thumped wasn't set up to amuse people at work... the fact that it does is just a great bonus really, so saying that your a chronic poster like its some sort of disease you can't control is pretty much a void argument

but I think opening more and more boards is just going to get real confusing

maybe whatsa needed is a bit of discipline and respect is needed

I mean I do love the messing that goes on around here, but it has been getting a bit OTT

anyway have you never heard of yahoo groups!!??

;)

I reserve the right to talk shite.

And to read shite. For example, the shite talk between Hector and Herv is the stuff of tragic comedy, goddammit.

Come to think of it, I reserve the right to be part of a clique. But this isn't a clique. It's not an exclusive club. Anyone with a comm-poo-ther can post, and anyone can sling mud. Or not. Simple.

So, coward, [zombie]post here....become...one...of...us...[/zombie]

i hate yahoo groups. they're not as fast. look, i know that i'm full of shit. and i apologise to everyone for the overwhelming amount of crap i post on this board. recently they've cut our internet access in work dramatically, none of us can do anything anymore. i'll be leaving this job soon anyway, so hopefully i can get some sort of normality back into things.

Fuck yahoo.
I'm getting confused now. It's a sticky one because if we set up other threads people won't have to read through what they don't want to,but then it might get really fucking boring.Like peewee said,we'll be holding back saying something in fear of pissing someone off.
I'm sure some of you are familiar with object oriented databases where you basically break things down into digestible parts, having minimum ambiguity.I think this is what is needed here, similar to what happened with the home recording thread.

If you don't know OO databases, duck so it can fly straight over your head.

Personally, I come for the Shite and stay for the Music stuff.

In fairness it's a breed of shite that's a cut or two above the rest, cram-packed with rapier wit and cut-throat satire; 'Pricks' for instance.

my small and irrelevent opinion on this matter is that i've post here 10 times and haven't been told to fuck off yet, which makes thumped perhaps the least hostile board i've posted on in around a year.
:)

in fairness i do think there was a time when people talked more about music. why in my day it was all sheet music mind you.
