General election 2020 (8 Viewers)

I don't mean this in a troll-y way but in a genuine one, the more the Irish Times posts opinion pieces by the old established order of ex-ministers and current affairs journalists worrying about a Sinn Fein government the more I want to see a Sinn Fein government

still at it today, Sinn Fein are run by a Lenin worshipping Politburo who are also the Donald Trump version of the US Republican party

astonishing stuff really

ok, programmer nerds... if you want to get a little dose of attention, make a website or a twitter bot that serves up automated absurdist anti-shinner hot-takes. the articles are basically saying the same five things over and over.

I wonder how much of that is coming from the tax paid massive govt pr dept indirectly. SF win, half them will have to go back to being stupid journalists

that's a funny one. FG TDs apparently willing to collapse the government over roads. they must be confident of retaining their seats if they trigger an election.

Is it one of those performative win-win things?

A: defend 'the roads' throwing one to that facist climate to support the unseen motor lobby.
B: road position becomes indefenisible, but 'they had our backs'.
C: blame green part for defunding insane projects.

Like as the conservative voting car dependent reliant politician, it's the safe no action bet?

Seems like the place to put this?

They even say nice things about David McWilliams in it.

I could see a Sinn Féin government taking it seriously, and maybe appealing to some nostalgic Fianna Fáil-ers. Point 1 would be a hard sell to middle Ireland I'd say, but then again it's not like anyone under 30 has any future under the system we currently have.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMM

That free floating dual currency sounds like the kinda thing someone like bertie or his ilk would see as a mechanism to bankrupt the place, buy it, privatise it and sell it back to the under 30s at an insane profit.

I like elements of it but that dual currency/tax/get out of jail shit is all sketch as fuck. curbing speculation would solve loads of the problems, but making the whole economy speculatable, less so.

I think one of the issues is that they are calling for a political solution, and Ireland has an awful lot of apolitical (or post-political if you prefer) people who say all "politicians are corrupt," ie nothing is possible with politics. An attitude that suits the free market just fine.

Anyway, I don't expect this article to fix the country/ get it all right in one go, but we probably need a lot more of this kind of thing if anything is going to change.

Yeah like how to get away from temporarily comfortable neoliberal centrism is probaly worth discussing before the temporary part goes away and they all turn into covidiot dads except its somethig stupider.

@Lili Marlene did you watch the Claire Byrne live 'sinn fein might win' edition?

I didn't, i thought it was just people joking on twitter but it seems to be actually a thing.
I see a video of Eddie fucking Hobbs thinking he's clever doing the old "a man has two cows" brain genius routine to explain why socialism is bad. He then goes on to explain that multinationals have a stranglehold on Ireland and this is a good thing and we should do as we're told. Speaking of things that need to be put out to pasture.

Its hard to believe that gowl has any continued exposure.
