all that talk of MAPPING the disease is starting to make sense.

so, days after the OPW reiterated that the phoenix park is for people, not cars, and that they wouldn't be reopening the side gates, it appears that and FG minister has pulled a stroke for an FF TD and announced that yes, they're reopening the gates.

I actually think they should keep the gates open. All closing them would do it cause massive jams at either end. eg I use it to get into town and there's no way I'd start going through Cabra and Phibsboro. I'd just try to enter at Castleknock instead of Ashtown.

But I get the point.

one major issue with the park is that two of the main car parks (visitor centre and papal cross) require you to drive halfway into the park. there are one or two small car parks on the periphery, but having the bigger ones in the centre is stupid.

on the same topic, it's gas how the anti-PfG GP members are taking this as proof that going into government was a mistake. any setback is now the green's fault for not stopping it (despite this decision being made in a department where they have no control and almost certainly were uninformed).

it's kinda funny how the usual green bashing tactic - the greens are to blame for whatever they were unable to prevent - has now been adopted by some of their members who are shouting the same argument from the rooftops. well, twitter, to be fair.

though it has been funny how much FF are unafraid of the stereotype of an FF gombeen. so they're also grabbing the coat others say they wore and have put it on with gusto, in a way.

Only gate in the Park that needs to be closed is Ashtown. What the fuck is going on there? I hate it.

Fire brigade need access to Garda HQ, Aras an Uachtarain etc.

Close the gates, remove the cars, allow the emergency people. Fuck it like set an example.

I used to have a venn diagram that was

human rights / traffic jam (elipse was human rights but its causing a traffic jam).

If i could find it i'd post it here. Things happening in Dublin is a beacon to the sticks.

you hear a lot of 'we can't do this without a proper consulation period!' and now (at least in the social media circles i frequent) you hear a lot of 'i don't recall a proper consultation period being proposed over allowing the city to be overwhelmed by cars'

i think this could be an interesting chance to do something like what you mention - there may be genuine concerns from the people of castleknock about the traffic there, but they're also the people most easily placed to enjoy the park and see the contrast between lockdown/post lockdown.

that said, allowing a fucking lidl to be built in the middle of the village was a mistake everyone could see coming but it went ahead anyway.

i say this as someone looking out the window and can see seven lanes for traffic between the northbound and southbound footpath on the road i live on. while also conscious that we knew that was the case when we moved here, so complaining would be churlish.

You will not convince me to feel anything positive for anyone who lives in Castleknock.

Bit of a trend emerging of broadsheet political journalists being hired by FG/FF to work as specialist advisors to Ministers, with Fiach Kelly of the Irish Times and Susan Mitchell of the Sunday Business Post being the latest to jump ship:

Dunno if you can blame the journalists given how unsteady the print media landscape is at the moment but it's surely eroding the credibility of political reporting for so many of them to end up employed by the government (that may be part of the reason for hiring them, I suppose).
